I’m on the latest 7.10.0.8832 beta, and I’ve noticed that the Plex app crashes somewhat occasionally when listening to music. I’ve noticed it most often occurs after listening to music for an hour or more, and when opening new apps. All of my crashes occur when opening a new app, but opening an app doesn’t always crash the app.
Example: I’ll be listening to music for a while, minimize the Plex app, and open Snapchat or Twitter. On app load, the Plex app crashes. Plex’s music notification remains, but doesn’t work. If I reopen the app, the song that was last playing is still there in the queue, but song progress resets.
Currently running Android 9 on a Pixel 2 XL, latest security patches, etc. I also whitelisted Plex many months ago to never have its battery usage optimized, to rule out Android’s battery saving features as a culprit.
I also re-opened the app right away the last time this happened, and exported debug logs. If those are needed, I’d be able to send those.
I just updated the plex app on my ph and my problem is similar also, for some reason when I first played some music it seem to work but after a few hours of using the app off/on it started doing the same thing, Music would just stop, on my Note 8 when I wake the phone and look it shows the song is playing but its not and after a few seconds I see the orange buffer bar for the song finish loading and the music starts again but right now its doing every few songs

Edit: I also wanted to add this happened again tonight when I was taking a screenshot in another app. Plex crashed immediately. I wonder if it has to do with other apps accessing Android’s images library/database? I’m sure Snapchat and Twitter, two of the apps I specifically noticed the behavior happening with, both check for updates to the camera roll on opening the app, as would taking a screenshot. Does Plex Android perhaps try integrating with local pictures, even though I don’t think I have a Photos library set up in Plex? Hope maybe that helps some.

The one I’m posting about in this thread is about Plex specifically crashing while the phone is in use, and having to re-open the app entirely, not about its activity being “paused” in the background/while locked.
