Plex App Crashing After 3 Seconds

To my knowledge, I didn’t change any settings but this afternoon my Plex just started crashing immediately after opening. I deleted and reinstalled/restarted but no dice.

Server Version#: 4.159.0
Player Version#:
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

I’m assuming you mean the Plex Media Server. I have seen this happen with a corrupt database causing it not start properly.

I would try to restore a database backup

Having the same issues. Multiple devices having playback errors just started out of nowhere. Restored a backup from 3 days ago and now its treating the media library as if its new. Stuff I have had in there for years is showing up as recently added. My continue watching area flashes from the stuff it should be to something I haven’t watched in quite awhile. Only change has been updating to server version 1.43.0.10492 on March 7th. Hoping I have a backup from before that.

If your able to restore correctly from a Backup. I would recommend to Implement a solution to prevent it occurring again.

Your solution seemed to work perfectly up until I clicked “Update Libraries”, then it started all over again.

So something confuses me. I have Plex running in a Debian container on Proxmox. I destroyed the container and restored a backup from the day after I updated. Everything looked fine when it first started up, but then an activity indicator appeared showing someone streaming a movie, but nobody is, and its a movie that was played 5 days after the backup. Not sure how its possible that an older backup than the played on date could even show this. Is plex syncing play status online, or anything from my local media online.

Oh, also shortly after I saw that the whole thing went south again and now its the same as before the restore. So far my other Plex server on a separate Proxmox host seems unaffected so far but that one sees very little use in comparison to the broken one.

Please run the dbrepair after the restore

@Dukes_Glamour can you get the server logs. Maybe we can get more info about the crash.

My Plex Media Server app now no longer opens at all, as in the app on my computer refuses to open at all.

Can you post a copy of your server logs?

I can’t provide logs because I can’t even get Plex Media Server to open, when I log in to my account now, it is only showing me Home and Watchlist, so I have no idea what i did.

Can you possibly assist me with getting my Plex Media Server to open again? The icon doesn’t even get full size and then it closes itself now. This was not an issue I had previously.

Hi, I think I found them

No luck after the database repair. After the repair and restart of Plex it looked fine and then moments later it went to the constantly changing Continue Watching and Recently Added lists. Went to settings to get server logs and all I get is “Something went wrong
An unexpected error occurred.“

Your database is corrupt:

Hi, I’ve gotten Plex to restart after deleting .blobs.db and the library.db file, and put in my backup files from March 1 from the last time I backed up my plex, it all works again up until I Update Libraries. I’ve got the log now, I don’t know if it’s the same info as the previous one, but if it is, could you tell me how I would go about fixing this? Would I use dbrepair?

Hello, I closed everything, used DBRepair and did the repair and reindex functions and the issue is the same, any other ideas or functions I could use in DBRepair to fix this?

If you used the auto option for the repair, and you are still having corruption issues that means your database is beyond repair, and you will need to start over.
EDIT:
Not seeing any database corruption in your logs so please strike that previous statement.

Looking at your logs I am seeing:

Which is showing that your plex server has 2 IPs on your LAN which I think is causing issues.

I did remove your email address from the above line to minimize spam sent to you.

Thanks! I ultimately just deleted TV & Movies and re-added both libraries using an old backup copy of my Server, which seems to have resolved it. Thank you for your help (and deleting my email address out of the log, much appreciated)

As for the IPs, could that be an issue caused by my VPN(s)?

No typically that is caused by having multiple network cards in your device. For a mac on a home network that is probably your wired Ethernet connection and your wireless card. Ideally just turn off wifi when connected
