Plex Server immediately crashes

Server Version#:1.40.18227-c0dd5a73e
Player Version#:
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>
Plex media server immediately crashes at system startup. It also immediately crashes when I double click the media server app.
I manually downloaded the latest version from website - no change.
I have tried restarting the computer, no luck there either.

Using a pretty old mini, haven’t touched any settings in… more years than I would like to think.

On what version of maOS are you running that PMS?

If the Plex Media Server won’t start and doesn’t even get to the stage where it’ll be writing to the server logs, you can attempt the following procedure to see if there’s any error messages on the OS level:

  1. Open Finder and navigate to /Applications
  2. Select Show Content from the context menu of the Plex Media Server.app item
  3. Navigate to Contents/MacOS
  4. Open the Terminal app
  5. Drag the Plex Media Server executable from the Finder window (#3) into the Terminal Window and press Return to execute it

This is no different from running the app, so it won’t succeed – but you should get a more specific error message about what’s causing it to fail starting.

Thanks!
That is about the most clear directions I have ever read.
It told me I had a corrupted database. A few googles later, and I restored from backup. Seems to be working now.
Thank you so much, we are so happy to be back up so quickly!

That’s great Tom has it sorted for you. I highly recommend you look at ChuckPa Database repair, you will be surprised what it can do for you.
