Plex app for Panasonic Smart Viera

This is awesome news! I'll cheerfully pay the $3.

Does Viera support in app activation? That way you could make the app free to download and install, but make a $3 charge for an activation code.

So the Plex App won't be available in Australia?

How difficult must things be for us here!  I dont even think there is a way to change region to download and change it back.

Can't wait to test this on my new TX-L55ET60E if you make a Kickstarter project i'm more than happy to donate! :D

Can't wait!! I would pay for a client also.

$3 waiting here in the UK. What's the ETA?

Wow, Flipps is great on iOS!

Poland waiting for Plex client for Viera :)

Another 3$ are waiting in Spain...

Quick update.  After a few small changes at Panasonic's request, the app has made its way to their QA group. Keep your fingers crossed.

Any news form the panasonic team? I have checked my TV every day now but have not seen any new app at all so I do not know if I do something wrong when I search or if Panasonic is lazy on making apps and approve 3rd party apps.

I have crossed my fingeres for a while now and hope that your app will be approved very soon.

SWEDEN IS WAITING ALL EXCITED!

I am still going back & forth with Panasonic on this.  Their current concern is that I used jQuery extensively, including all communication with the Plex server.  They are apparently unfamiliar with jQuery (which is quite shocking, since it is the most popular Javascript framework in the world and is used on developer.veiraconnect.com & www.panasonic.com) and are pushing back.  I am trying to be patient and provide them all of the information I can.

Could you post a demo of the app?

Pictures maybe?

OMG! That is shocking! I take it that they are expecting just vanilla JavaScript to be used?

How on earth can any Developers for web based apps be unaware of jQuery?

You really shouldnt expect anything from so called smart tv vendors, have you seen the little care and attention that is paid to their platforms, the people who work on these are probably TV engineers and others with very little experience.

The best thing Panasonic did was announce they were using Firefox OS though AndroidTV would have been better as their base OS going into the future.

Anyway rant over it's good to hear a Plex client is coming to the older viera system.

Either Way, I am very excited you put the time and effort into this app VieraApp.....   THis is really really friggen cool.... right now I use dlna or the client on my samsung blueray player (there are a lot of files locked down).  Both leave much to be desired, I feel like the panasonic viera is snappier...

It will be able to connet to the server outside the local network?

I have one server with multiple clients, and the viera TV is not in the same lan as the server (in fact it´s on another city).

THX!!!

You can enter whatever IP address you want - internal or external.  However, it is currently limited to a single IP that has to be manually entered.  myPlex support is on the to-do list.

As a more general update, Panasonic has gone silent for the last week.  I have not heard any response to my last two e-mails which provided clarification on jQuery and Javascript.  I'm not spending any time adding new features until version 1 is approved.

If Panasonic won't approve it is there any way to distribute it outside of their store? Clearly many of us are ready and willing to pay for this, but I'm just not sure if the logistics if Panasonic drags their feet.

Netherlands is also waiting eagerly

Brazil is also waiting :)
