Plex app for Panasonic Smart Viera

another $3 from the UK waiting

Awesome news. +1 ready for a 3$ bid from UK.

Ready and waiting with my £3 / $3 :D

Another 3$ ready and waiting...any ETA on approval?

So I bought a lifetime Plex pass and then bought a Panasonic TV.

The two don’t get on that well. I’m such a plonker.

You’ve definitely got my vote/money/support.

Count me in as well! :) Does Version 1 include myplex ability, as this would be a key feature for my planned setup? :)

I know that you can’t sell the apps in Australia, but i would happily donate $10 Aus to get it for free on the Australian market so i can use it in my tv and my parents’ tv.

Not yet unfortunately... just help (donate/pay) the developer:

Version 1 includes support for browsing libraries (including TV seasons), displaying metadata/poster/background, continue partially watched video, skip ahead & back 30 seconds, and search functionality.

I was going back & forth on whether to make this a paid app or not.  In the end, given all of the time I've put into it and will put into it, I decided to charge a modest $3. This will help support future development efforts, including bug fixes, myPlex, subtitles, DirectPlay & DirectStream, and sort & filter options.

Getting mad in checking this forum...

Cant wait to see Plex on my VT!

Quick update. Ā After a few small changes at Panasonic's request, the app has made its way to their QA group. Keep your fingers crossed.

Yes another Aussie willing to send you some $ via paypal if you can make the app avail for free on the Australian market.

New 65VT60 owner here too so am very interested! Was really bummed at the prospect of needing an external client.Ā

Thanks much to taking this on yourself!! Why couldn't the plex team do this???!

Couldn't the Aussie's use a VPN, even a free account with very little bandwidth, to log into a Viera account with either a UK or US IP address, pay for the app, and then go back to their normal IP address from AU, or whatever other country that Panasonic isn't setup to do online transaction in?

Another option is a "subscription" method of payment, and I'm using this term VERY loosely just as an end run around Panasonic's inability to accept payments from places other than Europe, the UK, and the US. Ā There are quite a few channels that require you to go online and purchase a subscription to in order to access the content. Ā Pretty much all of them are streaming media channels. Ā Is it possible to make your app free in all countries, but unusable until a "subscription" is purchased? Ā This would be a lifetime, or some other set period of time, "subscription" for $3, so the end result would be the exact same as having the payment go through the Panasonic Viera store, although you might actually receive more of that $3 since I'm guessing Panasonic takes some sort of a percentage of your sale. Ā In other words, pay your money online via PayPal or whatever payment system you choose, your webpage generates a code like Plex, Netflix, Amazon, etc uses to link your device to your account, your customer enters that code on their TV, and voila! Ā A paid for, regardless of where they live in the world, and working Plex app on their Panasonic HDTV.

Just brainstorming here. Ā Would any of those methods work/help?

Free for all! And then make a little website were we can donate for you. So we can decide how much the app is worth. It is the easiest way!

The Plex team has never done a TV client. It has always been a third-party endeavor. The amount of hardware that can run a type of Plex client is way to many for the small Plex team to do clients for them. We need them to focus on the ones they are doing already plus PMS that needs new features.

I hadn’t thought of that. I’ll give that a try I think. Set my router up accordingly to channel requests from my TV via an international VPN. It could very well work.

Seeing as Panasonic don't seem to want to come to the party, and develop a Viera app for Plex......

Certainly not the same thing, but for those wanting to easily DLNA from Plex to their Panasonic TV, what I've found works OK is the IOS app iMediaShare Personal. It allows you to browse the Plex DLNA share, and then sends the output directly to your Panasonic TV without ever having to touch your TV remote, or use the Panasonic media player menu. The experience is not unlike using the Plex iplay to an Apple TV, but in this case directly to the TV.

Not exactly sure how it does it, but it's pretty cool. What would be cooler is if this functionality was integrated directly into Plex, rather than having to use a third part product.

TwonkyBeam does the same.

However that is not the same as having a native app on the TV.

Let’s hope that the app gets through QA quickly.

There’s a lot of eager people who want to get their hands on this.

Using Plex as a DLNA server directly to my ZT60 is working pretty well but it would be nice to have Plex for the unwatched/on deck features if nothing else. Ā It's also prettier. :)

Unwatched/on deck didn't make the cut for version 1. Ā It's coming, though.
