Hey I hope you hang in there, I've been following this topic for quite a while now, but gave up hope a while back. This week I saw you started with this project and I was very excited to finally see someone taking a crack at this.
Only for it to be smashed down by those Panasonic nobjobs if I understand what is going on correctly.
I hope you push forward with this, I am also willing to donate € 10,- if you decide to do so.
DOM3 is not a working draft. It was released almost 10 years ago. See www.w3.org/DOM/DOMTR or Wikipedia.
Yeah. These crackjacks at Pana must have mixed their potions the wrong way. VieraApp, do not give in, see how much support you're receiving, see that you can still earn some serious bucks with your app!

Had a response from panasonic that they're looking into it and will get back to me in due course....
Thank you for your e-mail.

I'm giving it one last go. I found that their Video Player Tutorial uses both XMLHttpRequest & jQuery. So if they are available in the official tutorial, why can't I use them in my application?
Really hope you don't get too frustrated and quit. Your efforts are appreciated!
In the meantime...DLNA on the TV sucks enough that I went ahead and got a Chromecast with a Plexpass. 1 word: incredible! Anyone thinking of going the client route (Roku etc), Chromecast with Plex has completely exceeded my expectations. Every tablet and phone in the house is a Plex remote now. I'm happy as a pig in shi...er, slop.
Well, Chromecast, despite being a cool thing in itself, is no viable alternative for a proper VIERA app:
1) It cannot be controlled with a remote. Of course, you can use a smartphone, but my wife prefers one remote to rule them all. Preferably the one that came with the TV set, since universal remotes are usually not up to the task. I kinda begin to feel myself the simpler it gets, the better.
2) I have my BR movies ripped and stored on several HDDs on my PC, each 2TB in size. Since I need the PC to run to watch a movie anyway, I can use XBMC or PLEX theater, remotely controlled with a smartphone app. Chromecast cannot do any better (or easier, for that matter). Yes, there's also DLNA, but that equals to no subs in mkv's in 2011 Panasonic's.
3) It's yet-another-device-in-the-pipeline. I grow weary of having too many gizmos to configure/set up/maintain/explain to the wife and other people in the household.
So, wife considered, a proper VIERA app is a best bet - all content is streamed from a PC PLEX server, with subs, controlled with a TV remote. Wife happy. Me happy. It NEEDS to effing happen! :)
Mr VieraApp, do not let this die, many people will gladly pay to have this kind of functionality.

Keep up the good work, really appreciate the effort you are going to.

Astounding. It's really a shame that Panasonic is this disconnected from both the market *AND* themselves. They make (or made... I'm a plasma guy) great TVs, and to stay competitive they really need to support developers, not be clueless about how to support them.
Thanks for your efforts, VieraApp. We're all counting on you. ;)
Yep, don't disagree, with any of your points really, altho I thought the same about the remote at first. Integrated app is ideal. But, we all use (love) plex for a reason: experience. I could easily stream DLNA direct from my boring NAS or PC without plex in the middle either. Chromecast + plex is a better experience (in lieu of having a native app). Even still, I really like being able to browse on deck, libraries, what have you, from the tablet and the only thing that gets put on screen is content. Definitely different than what we're used to but I like this Plex experience better than fumbling with another remote or device profile on my Harmony. Definitely didn't feel that way at first but after doing it this way for a few days, I love it!
Edit: I should say also that my other TV is a sammy with the native plex app, so I have perspective both ways. I may put a chromecast on that TV too I like this so much. :p

I'd bless Chromecast, I guess, but since 8 to 10 terabytes of my movies are PC embedded, I just run the PC app, namely PLEX for PC or XBMC and the PC server. No amount of tinkering would make Chromecast work in my favor here, since I need a server anyway :(. Hence, wife-considered, a PLEX app running natively on a Panasonic plasma would just make her turn on the PC and watch a movie. Now she's got to turn on the PC, switch inputs via a tv remote, hope for the XBMC to autorun correctly, run a smartphone remote app, navigate, run a movie. Maybe even tinker with a sound output (an area, where these consumer Panasonics stink badly). Wife's a smartass but she hates combined task trees. And I begin to agree ;))
Here’s hoping they realise what they’re missing and stop being obstructive, on a side note I’ve been using DLNA from plex for a little while - has anyone found their moves streamed from plex this way judder every so often, it’s like the tv can’t keep up, I don’t get the problem to my sony tv - noticed on 1080 and 780p content, also seen it when played file from USB connected to TV so thinking the tv can’t handle bit rate some times ?
I have a ut50b, yes I’m a plasma guy too - took a long time to jump but my friends pioneer convinced me then they stopped making them so waited some more years and purchased a panny, now they stopped making them! Also won a friend over who returned many led tvs as uneven brightness and juddering

Plex DLNA doesn't play nicely with Panny's in my opinion. I stopped using it in favour of TwonkyServer which works brilliantly.
As for Plex I just hope VieraApp can make these idiots at Panasonic see sense. Otherwise I might have to invest in a Chromecast when it's available in the UK (next month I believe) and just hope that it is available with the Plex app.
Interestingly I purchased my Panasonic around 4 weeks ago and specifically purchased a smart tv to use plex on. I should have done more homework on the Panasonic at the time I guess.
Now I want a smart tv for the bedroom and I will NOT be buying Panasonic…(suggestions welcome - the picture quality is fantastic on the Panasonic)
Smart TVs are only as good as the content you can get on them and here in Australia content for smart TVs is not very available so plex is a must.
I have ordered a chromecast at higher cost (again not available in Australia) for the Panasonic to experiment with. I already have an Apple TV on it it and it works like a treat, however as I said I want to experiment with the chromecast and the native plex interface rather than the apple interface.
However coming back to the main point I wanted a single remote to do all this on my not so smart Panasonic TV.
Panasonic are idiots because without content the smart option is a complete waste of time and the dlna interface on the Panasonic is bloody terrible!
