I’m watching Plex on Web Browser of my Panasonic Smart TV … uffffffffff
:o In my we browser blank page

Mine does not work. I get the sign in then just a black screen.

I’m really happy with the picture quality, but very sorry I bought a Panasonic with a OS as sad and lifeless as it is FirefoxTV

I like the operating system. Much better than Samsung’s which tries to be too clever and over complicates things. The picture quality is the best part. BBC test of 4K HDR looks fantastic.

How? Which model do you have?

Everyone else that’s tried using the inbuilt browser gets blank black screens…

Maybe he is using an old version or something? I used to be able to use the inbuild browser aswell. Not anymore though.

Please make a native app!

I know it’s not the answer that we all want to hear, but a good friend of mine used to work at Panasonic and asked for an app to be designed. Turns out Panasonic is not interested.
In his words:

Panasonic’s internal view is if the app is not likely to generate significant positive net margin, then they won’t develop it. This was one of the reasons Netflix was so late to Panasonic; loads of people were using it, but the licensing deal was not in Panasonic’s favour.

So we’ll have to get someone outside of Panasonic to create something. @charlas ?

Yeah I’ve heard that Panasonic is a little ruthless with its apps etc,
although I would think now the userbase is large enough to warrant people
purchasing tv’s because of compatibility.

I will get to doing something, honest, just work and home at the moment is
ramped, I’ve got 3 international projects on that are worth multi million
GBP each, and unfortunately they take preference… When I get a few hours
down time though I will get something finished (not really highest priority
as I use the One S anyhow) but needs to be done. Just remember it will have
to be sideloaded as in not going to submit it to the app store

So this problem has been ongoing for over 5 years and today I sent an email to Panasonic
Hi
Just been researching Panasonic and Plex through the internet and found that this request has been ongoing for over 5 years and it looks as if you have done nothing about it and you are not even bothered.
What is the problem with creating the Plex app???

I received the following reply
Thank you for your e-mail. In response, I would like to inform you that Plex are the developers of the app and the feature itself. If the app is not located in the Viera Apps markes, I’m afraid that you cannot download the app on the set.
One way around it would be if you have the possibility to connect your laptop/PC to your TV, so that the set can act as a screen for what the laptop is sending, so you can view the Plex programmes on the TV.
I trust that the above information will be of assistance to you. However, of course, if you should have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind Regards,
Howard

“Still wait Plex on Panasonic TV.”

+1

I came home with a new Panasonic 50" DX700 a so called “Smart” TV this morning. I’d gone to the local branch of a well known UK HiFi and TV retail chain with the intent of getting an LG, but was talked into getting the more expensive Panasonic instead. I have to admit I didn’t ask but assumed that all “decent” manufacturers supported Plex. What a mistake!

I’ll be asking if they’ll take it back tomorrow otherwise I’m not really sure what I’ll do with it, go back my old Sony and sell it at a considerable loss I suppose.

Gutted!

I’m with you… I couldn’t take my TV back, and I regret it. At this rate I don’t think I’d ever buy a Panasonic TV ever again, irrespective of picture quality - it’s not just plex, the entire thing barely counts as a smart TV. They opted for Firefox OS, and it was a bad bad choice.

However, all is not lost. You CAN get content streaming over the DLNA. Here’s how to get it working.

  1. Browse over to the Plex Profiles github repo - GitHub - Hedda/Plex-DNLA-client-profiles: DNLA (UPnP) client profiles XML files taken from PMS (Plex Media Server) version 0.9.11.7.803-87d0708
  2. find the Panasonic Viera 3D TV.xml profile, and click on it
  3. find the button that says RAW, right click and select to save a copy.
  4. Once downloaded, move it to your plex user profiles folder. This will be where ever you have configured Plex to save its data. The profiles folder will not exist, so create it.
  5. Open the XML file in notepad (right click, select edit)
  6. Search for , and change the “VIERA” to whatever your TV model is.
  7. Assuming your TV and PC are on the same network you can find your TV model in windows by browsing to your computer. You should see an entry for your TV. For me its name is 58DX750_Series. So replace with
  8. Save the XML file
  9. Configure Plex to run a DLNA server. Settings → Server → DLNA → enable
  10. restart plex
  11. You should now see a DLNA plex server on your TV under home->devices->plex… and hopefully play any content.

https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/73702/writing-profiles-for-dlna-devices/p1 has more information about determining if a plex profile is working or not

Thanks Mate
Very Very much appreciated, I’m working away for the week but will try at the weekend

A Basic Webapp that is pointing to the mentioned link from @ClosestStorm
It will work for all FirefoxOS based TVs, to install it just use Firefoxs WebIDE.

Yeh been using WebIDE cant seem to get it full screen once after the redirect

Did you tried to change the redirect URI in the index file?
Mine works fine with the “/lg” at the end… but I think it could be related to the resolution of the TV, I just got one with HD, maybe UHD is causing the issue here.

Yes redirected the index file also tried changing the launch_path.
Maybe but the Panasonic html5 app, goes full screen. I have tried the the other tv web apps as well but comes out even smaller. I know plex isn’t in uhd yet so your probably right.

Done it used a different tv link put both on GitHub and give you credit for the icons and put the zip of the HD one you made and the zip I made.
