Plex app manual connection with DDNS

Server Version#: 1.16.4.1469
Player Version#:7.19.2.11789
Hi there,

Just a question about the android app, but a bit of a background on my server. It’s currently running with a VPN in the background, and so it constantly tells me that remote access isn’t working as it can’t access the port. To get around this, I have a DDNS service set up for my network so that even if my IP changes, I still know what to use to access my network.

The android app allows for a manual connection to a server, however it only seems to let me type in numbers for an IP, instead of a website. Does anybody know if there is a way around this? My IP seems to change pretty frequently with my internet provider, so I’d much prefer not to have remote into the desktop to check the IP on my router, and then change it in the app all the time.

Thanks!

Plex already includes a DDNS solution, right out of the box. It may update itself not as frequently as you wish, though (it takes ~ 1 hr on IP changes).

If you insist on using your own domain name, make sure to have a publicly trusted security certificate for this domain or disable ‘Secure Connections’.
