You can’t help but think Apple would be considering how not to have PLEX in the store. Presumably they will reject on the basis of the channels? Perhaps the web issues are how plex deals with the server of WAN or what ever.
I can think of many things Apple would not want, but then I am growing pessimistic and must remain positive.
Don’t worry - there is absolutely no basis for your fear. Plex is on other iOS devices and SimpleX has been approved and is in the App Store today. I’m sure they are just working through their backlog, that’s all.

Ok, but as I run the PMS on a NAS (DS412+) who is not powerful enough to transcode my big 1080p MKV this will be a problem with the ATV4 and that I better have to keep my mac mini to run Plex HT?
why wouldn’t you just use your mac mini to transcode for the atv anyway… i have a mac mini that runs my plex server that does all the transcoding grunt work. mine is connected to a thunderbolt drive but i’m sure it’d work just fine with a nas.

This actually depends on what is in the MKV container, the most common video format is H.264 so that would not need any transcoding, it would just need remuxing so it may be possible for the NAS to handle the remuxing, but like I said it would depend on the video codec and audio codec being used.

The goal was to get rid of the mac mini (dedicated only for plex) as ATV4 was a cheapest alternative (I’m also tired to do remote session in order to remove all the pop-up that OSX is generating and appear in front of the Plex HT, like SW update available, or new device using your apple ID…)

Yea when something is converting in iflicks2 (for example) and it pops up in front of what you’re watching in PHT it’s pretty annoying. Unless anyone has a workaround?

I think what @hockingn was trying to say is why not run Plex Media Server on the Mac mini on your network, point the media server to your NAS, and then use ATV4 to display the content on your TV. This would give you the trans coding power you need, the storage capability of NAS and the ease of use of the ATV4 and not have to worry about Plex HT.
Or if you have other machines on your network you could run the Plex Media Server on one of those and get rid of the mini altogether.

This is how I’m already setup - it’s the best of all worlds The only thing to keep in mind is if/when the NAS updates and restarts (and the Mac Mini stays on), the connection from the Mac Mini Plex server and the NAS can be lost and needs to be re-established manually. Doesn’t happen often, but just something to keep in mind.

I use a mac mini as a plex server and have no issues or pop ups! I also use iflicks 2 to get artwork and all my stuff with meta tags. Let me know what issue you are having maybe i can help?

I have this set up and use a script to keep the drives mounted. Search the forums, should be able to find something.

I purposely built my WHS 2011 server with enough horsepower to run Plex Media Server as a service, along with Plexconnect sending my media to my 2 x ATV3s, there are some nuances, but it works. It’s been a great setup and I am looking forward to adding the ATV4 to it once the app is out!

I use my Mac Mini for Plex Home Theatre and whilst Im watching a film/show if iFlicks2 finds a film in a watched folder to convert it pops up in front of PHT. Same with Transmission. Is there a way to lock PHT to the front?

So, I am setup this way as well, and I recommend configuring auto_afp to make sure that your NAS stays mounted at all times. Works like a champ for me!

Fritzz hmmm… so should I rebuild my Mac Mini its OS X Server to run Plex media Server as a service?
Honestly I couldn’t tell you which way to do it since I live in a mostly Windows environment. I am sure the other support sections of the forums could provide better information. If you are trying to avoid the drop of network drives then I would think the suggestion @cleverdevil posted would be the easiest solution.
“As soon as your tvOS app is approved and if it’s set to be automatically released, a small group of people who currently have an Apple TV will be able to use your tvOS app…”
Does this mean the majority of us will have to wait even longer? The wait is killing me as it is.
Also have any new apps gone up on the Apple TV over the weekend? Seems to be the same stuff since launch, even when searching the alphabet.

This is exactly what I’ve done - WHS2011 home built server (50TB storage) with DrivePool serving one Roku3, four aTV3’s and one aTV4 - works brilliantly. Best of both/all worlds with WHS2011 being excellent and aTV’s and Roku serving up content in a “wife and kids” friendly way.
Can’t wait for Plex on the aTV4 and then if Amazon did a Prime app for aTV4 I could ditch/move the Roku (not at all confident - silly spat and makes Amazon look very petty in my view).
