Plex App on nvidia shield (and web browser client) cannot connect to any servers

I recently had my shield and tv unplugged to move some furniture. When I reconnected everything, the shield was unable to connect to any of my servers. All my other clients are having no problem.

I’ve tried:

  • restarting the shield
  • clearing the plex app cache/data
  • logging out and back in (relinking) the plex account
  • updating the shield itself and the plex app
  • doing all of the above with the new updated app

The problem is still the same, and now when I try to use the “new updated plex app” it is entirely frozen after I tell it to use the server which it says is unavailable. What else can I try?

edit for more details:

  • at least one plex media server is up to date
  • the shield is on the same network as my other clients, but all my servers are remote
  • there was no problem two days ago before I unplugged the shield and moved everything
  • here are the network logs from the shield
  • the web browser plex client has the same problem as the nvidia shield (it even has the same “new” interface), but my desktop app client is working fine
  • none of my clients or servers have any updates pending
  • if I connect my desktop to a VPN, then the web browser client is able to connect to the server via the VPN local address

Plex experiencing DNS issues affecting many clients. The problem started earlier today. You can monitor the problem at https://status.plex.tv/.

Interesting, I guess that makes sense with the last detail I found about the VPN making the browser client work. I also noticed that the new client rollout is pretty wide, so I thought it had something to do with my client recently being updated to the new interface/version while my server didn’t have any updates this week.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll keep an eye on that DNS issue.
