Ples Media Server is Unavailable

I have used Plex for many years now and had very few problems. However, I’m not sure if its coincident with the most recent release, but Plex does not connect to any of my Android devices (Android Box, Fire Stick TV). My server is shown with an exclamation within a triangle and the retry connection page appears. Retrying is unsuccessful. I have checked program control in Norton and Plex apps are allowed. I can’t think of any related changes to my server.
The Plex addon apps such as Movies and Tv, Web Shows, etc work.
I went through the problem solving netwrok connection and it did not help.
Was something installed with the last release that would cause this connection issue?

I got the same problem. I have 2 servers, a Linux and a windows, I have friends with a shield a ps4. I have a shield and all 3 of us have recurrent “the server is unavailable”. It seems to work from a browser though.
Everything used to work perfectly before.
I use my windows server locally and my Linux one remotely.

The Plex server just isn’t starting on my Nvidia shield. The Plex server app updated again just now and even after installing everything from scratch it just does not work

In the settings it states it is running but it is not. I only have the five menu categories movies, web shows, news, podcasts and tidal.
The Nvidia shield isn’t in the list, it isn’t in the website Plex manager.

There is real issues with Plex and Nvidia shield.

I have the same issue using the Firestick 4k Plex App. The content appears fine on my Apple TV. I always have the worst issue with Firestick. This is starting to be annoying. What is worse is I can search for a movie, but seriously I don’t have time for this crap.

I have the exact same problem, I went and purchased a new nvidia shield tv pro just so that I could have a shiny new plex player, my content is all hosted online. The plex app in the nvidia shield was a terrible experience, when I go into the plex app, it shows all my content at unavailable, and doesnt matter how many times I click retry connection it says failed to reconnect, only was I was able to see my content is to reboot my shield each time, I really hope they fix this nightmare soon, my Roku 4k Ultra never ever had this issue, and still doesnt. On my Shield I’ve resorted to downloading Kodi and then running plex for kodi from there. Works waaaaay better than the plex player app

I have the shield and constantly dealing with this “offline” issue. I have resorted to plugging it into a wemo switch so that I can reboot remotely if I am not home and want to access Plex. Although, sometimes my network drive with the movies does not always remount. Such a pain

Somehow I got connected. I signed out of both the server and device apps and logged back in a couple times and then the connection was made. I’m not really sure of the order I closed and opened. The app now wants me to reset my customizations as soon as I open the app. Then I have to go through the “more” category to connect to the server files. I get the Indirect Playback screen now which I didn’t normally get before. Version - 7.25.3.1365. Thinking about giving EMBY a shot.
The other aggravation is that I’m not interested in the extra stuff the developers have added - ie Movies and TV, podcasts, etc and unfortunately that stuff doesn’t turn off all that easily.
Plex was working really well for me and is now problematic. Hopefully the developers fix the mess.

If it helps anyone, I have been having the same or similar issue.
My setup is as follows.
Nvidia shield
Synology NAS
Plex server on shield, movies stored on NAS. I have Plex Pass

Up to about a month ago, I had zero issues with Plex, and it was my go to for all my movies located on the NAS. Then a shield update (I assume it was a shield update) rendered my Plex as dead. I get the same triangle with “!” inside, for my NAS.
Originally I spent hours troubleshooting the Shield, thinking that it no longer sees my NAS, but I fired up Kodi and found all my movies…and can watch them, etc.

Now, I am not sure if this means anything or not, but before getting the yellow triangle, I was able to click on a movie, but it would time out as if the shield could not decode the movie…even for movies that I had watched that same week. Since then, I have removed the Plex updates, going back to the “original” Plex installation according the the Shield, but I can confirm that it is not the original implementation because of the new “features” that were not there before, “the five menu categories movies, web shows, news, podcasts and tidal.” mentioned previously.

On my other PC, I am trying to to connect to my server (I am at work), but am being told that the server is offline…
I am NOT running Plex server on my NAS, but I never have either. I just store my files (MP4) there…

I am no expert by any means, and there is more that I can check, such as other android boxes at my home (I just need to get them fired up) to further isolate the issue to either the Shield, or to my Plex account.

Yes, this is a pain, as my entire family much prefers the Plex interface to the Kodi interface. Not to mention that I paid for Plex pass about 6 months ago, and now it appears to be useless to me. I am certainly not blaming Plex, only looking for suggestions, and I am glad that I found this thread as I had been searching for weeks (on and off during evenings) and this is the closest I have come to seeing my exact issues.

Oh yeah, to be clear…I am able to access my NAS remotely from work, in case the question as to whether my NAS is truly offline or not. It is NOT offline.

I have the same issues as well. If I reboot the stick (pull the cord or go into settings and force stop the ap everything re appears) wierdly as well on the tv stick if you hit retry it gets in a constant loop of unavailable yet if i go back to home it is all there and avaialble no triangle? Although this didnt cure my issues, allowing insecure connections on all devices including the server helped.

can you offer any advice on this @sa2000? Thanks

Are you having this issue remotely or when connected on the local network? I had this issue using a Fire Stick remotely. Turns out it’s a bug with the most recent upgrade. I needed to install an older version of the Plex app on it - Version 7.23. and side load install it onto my Fire Stick.

You’ll need to install and use the Downloader app on your Fire Stick. Here’s a site that has the instructions on how to install the older version (Use Option Two):
https://www.howtogeek.com/336602/how-to-sideload-apps-on-the-fire-tv-and-fire-tv-stick/

Enter this address to download the older version of Plex: shorturl.at/acoy5

Hope this helps.
