I just want to report a bug,
I use latest version of pms on synology nas and latest version of nvidia shield app, with new interface.
So, since last update of shield app, when I hit back button, on nvidia shield remote or other remote, the app don’t quit, I have to press home button on nvidia shield remote.
The problem for me, I prefer to use my tv remote which don’t have a home button, so when I use plex I’m stuck on it.
We are aware of the issue and working on a fix. The problem depends on what’s in focus when you hit back. If you are on a poster, I believe it will work.

Same here. I’m unable to leave the Plex app with my Samsung QLED remote. Side bar opens when I press back button. Pressing Samsung home button only brings up TV home menu, and not Nvidia Shield Home.
We need a proper Exit button like Netflix has, or double back button press to exit like the rest of the Android app world uses.
A potential fix is available in the latest Beta app. Once we receive reports, this can become public soon.
On nvidia shield still while playing content the red b button (back) on the main shield pad remote, it doesn’t exit the content, yet if I grab the shield’s thin mini remote and hit back triangle button it works. Once out of the content and into the main plex menus it navigates as a back button normally. Using plex server on latest plexpass release
Different issue than the original report but I’m aware of this and have informed the devs.

I am a long time Android TV user but via the built in app on a Sony TV. However, I now have an Nvidia Shield on the latest public version and using a single remote (TV) I still can’t use the back button to exit Plex and get back to the home screen of the Nvidia Shield. I always used to press the ‘Home’ button on the Sony remote once I had reached the switch user screen when I was using the inbuilt app and this was fine as there was no other home screen at that point.
The back button on the Shield exits media, pre-play screens and the Plex home screen but with multiple home users, I always like to leave Plex on the select users screen and there is no way to leave the app at this point. All the other apps that I have installed on the Nvidia Shield eventually exit back to the Home screen if you press the ‘Back’ button enough times so it is frustrating that the app that we use the most does not also do so.
Please let me know if this is not clear of if I can provide any further info.
I am able to exit out from the Plex app on my Shield. Even while on the user selection screen.
Can you provide specifics on which version of the app, what firmware your Shield is on, which remote you are using and what button you are pressing?
Before now, I was pressing the back button to get a far as the Plex Home screen and then manually selecting the logged in user before opting to Switch user. The back button still doesn’t work for me from that screen but with the recent comments here I now know that I can press back when on the Home screen to exit the app completely. This works for me everytime and when I then re-open the app it goes to the select user screen which is exactly what I am after.

I have the opposite problem. When pressing the back button from the show / movie title screen plex player app will exit completely to the Shield home screen. Quite annoying as all my family profiles have passcodes which means that after everything you watch, you have to re-launch plex and log back in. (removing the passwords doesn’t fix it either)
Any ideas?
That’s a new wrinkle I haven’t seen. If you can reproduce the issue, then restart the app and grab the Plex for Android TV logs, that would be helpful. https://support.plex.tv/articles/201573117-android-android-tv-fire-tv-logs/

Plex App 7.28.0.15265
When i want to leave an movie i try to hit the “B” Button on the Shield 2017 Joypad.
Within the Plex selection Menu, it woks fine.
Oh sorry, I didn’t read your comment properly before. I can confirm that hitting “B” while playing a movie doesn’t work. I was still stuck on the original issue of this thread which as exiting the app. I will let the devs know.
Is there any fix for this? I am tired of not being able to exit with the Back button once music is playing. Hitting home to return to the Shield main screen is an extremely awkward work around.
What version of the app are you running. This was fixed in 7.30.0
