I just upgraded to the 2.1.0.74 PMP and… I’ll get used to the new navigation. But there is one thing you MUST look into changing. Now with this version, you can hit Esc, or the ‘back button’ or similar depending on your input device and back out of each screen. With EVERY previous version you could hit that back/esc button from the home page and be asked if you want to exit etc. Now from the home screen, back/esc does nothing. So now when you want to leave Plex you have to back, back, back out to the home screen… (simple enough as always) and THEN click up, to the home screen title bar, then right right right over to the username, then enter to open the dropdown, the down down down to exit. THEN confirm exit. EVERY time to get out of Plex. You folks MUST put the navigational functionality back in that Plex always had so that from the home screen, hit esc/back and then confirm exit to get out. 2 button pushes versus about 10. (Did I mention PLEASE!)
If you have a full keyboard, press either Alt+F4 or CTRL+Q
Also, you can go quickly from any place to the main screen by pressing h
Please think in broader and less technical terms about daily use of Plex. This product is the best available and should maintain the same or higher standards with new versions. Yes, I do have a keyboard, but the point was that with a remote… by far the most typical input device… navigation with the new player has taken a step back. While of course there are keyboard shortcuts for everything, that isn’t the answer. Most people don’t watch theater/TV with keyboards on their laps and recalling keyboard sequences while in the middle of a movie. They hold a remote. The point still remains that this version has navigation issues compared to all recent previous versions and most other similar apps.
1- The ‘back’ or ‘exit’ button from a REMOTE (or any input device), should move back one screen at all times, all the way to the final ‘EXIT’ prompt where an ENTER or RETURN command will exit back to the desktop. Right now, from a movie details screen there are some 14 clicks of navigation to exit.
2-On the program/movie main details page there are navigation issues as well. When you select a season or compilation of videos from the main description screen, you see the list of episodes and can navigate to which you want to view or delete. If you delete an episode using the ‘…’ prompt, after deletion, the app takes you back to the main detail or category screen instead of moving ONE step back to the season screen where you did the deletion (with the ‘…’ prompt). You have to navigate back to the season each time you delete an episode. The only time that this should happen is if the episode was the last one in the collection and thus, the app moves back to the collection screen. If there are other episodes available, after a delete, it should return to the episode screen. Needs to be fixed.
3-When deleting the last episode of a show, Plex takes you to a screen message saying something like ‘there is no home page for this item’ and after you acknowledge the ‘error’, takes you back to the main screen. I understand that after deleting the last episode there isn’t a ‘back’ screen to go to, but why the message? You have no choice and must go back to the main screen anyway, so why not just take you back automatically? Minor issue, but just unnecessary.
There are other navigation issues with this version that were fine before, but these are the 2 I’ve found that cause the most unnecessary clicks (sometimes many) and are the most annoying because they frequent navigation moves.
