Plex Apple TV app should return to the previous user selected

I love using Plex, we use our library at home and on the go and its seamless.
If I exit the Plex app and then go straight back in, the app prompts me to select the user rather than returning to the user previous selected. For me it would be ideal if it assumed the same user rather than prompting, especially on the Apple TV.

Then you totally bypass the security/reason the home users exist.
One of the primary reasons they were created was to allow parental control within the home without requiring plex.tv accounts. They have other benefits too of course, but that was Plex’s response to an large group of people wanting parental controls for same LAN users.

The phone app does this already. Not sure why apple tv one doeant do this . I also have a lock on my acct and two that have no parent lock. Maybe its a option you turn on or apple tv doesnt do it.
And if it doesnt then it should be added but if a lock acct comes up code should still need to be put in. Dont have an apple tv to look.

There is an option in the app’s preferences, named ‘Automatic Logon’ (or similar)
When ‘ticked’, this one restores the last logged-in user upon app start.

Hi I checked the app settings both within the Plex app, and in the Apple Settings, there is no option for Automatic Logon (or similar). The app version I’m running on the Apple TV is 1.20 (7508)

I don’t have an ATV4 myself, but other users are certain that it has this preference.

Sorry you are correct, I was looking at the settings as my managed user account. Not the main (owner) account. In settings there is an option called “Automatically sign in”, I will test that out. Thanks!

Update: I’ve tested the “Automatically sign in” feature, unfortunately its an all or nothing. Currently this feature will return you to the previous user in the app no matter how long ago they last used the app. But because its not an obvious menu (and its pretty fiddly) to change users in the Plex app this isn’t a great user experience.

Ideally this option would

  • If you leave the app and then go back in immediately (say within 2 minutes) then assume the previous user. This is good for when people knock the home button on the remote causing the ATV to exit the Plex app and return to the home screen. Potentially it could do something smarter than a simple timer to decide if it should assume the previous user or not.
  • If its longer than the specified time then ask the user to pick their account from the list, by default it should be sitting on the last used account in the list.

I have quite a few managed users, so it would be a great improvement to simply make that last change. When some exits the Plex app and goes back in, the selection should be sitting on the account for the last person who used it.
This happens if you pause a video and the Apple TV goes to the screensaver as well, its not just when you exit the app.

Cheers,

MC
