Plex Lifetime user, subscribed to Plex Arcade. Installed windows plex server, signed in, accessible via network, got past the “need chromium” and “rom directory” setup.
When I go click on any game, I receive “An active Plex Arcade subscription is required for game playback. Error code: 8013 (Account)”. I’ve already gone through the subscription, signed up via paypal, confirmed my email with parsec. Plex shows as “Limetime Plex Pass + Plex Arcade” in my account.
I’m out of options - does this feature just not work well?
Same here. I just subscribed. Got a livingroom server (main server) and bedroom server (where all my roms are) but it will only let me play games from the livingroom server which means I will have to move all of my g** d**n roms to another computer. What a pain in the ass…
If I try to launch games from the bedroom server it says “An active Plex Arcade subscription is required for game playback. Error code: 8013 (Account)”
This was a very poorly planned rollout. It doesn’t even download the emulator cores for you. If I have to pay money for something that I can do free on my own then I want it to be simple. Just point it to my roms folder and play.
Okay that solved the account issue. Now I am having transcoder issues. Keeps giving me this error “The game transcoder exited unexpectedly. Error code: 8005 (Game Server)” I tried switching cores and it made that error go away but the games are loading to blank screens. I got one snes game to load to a black screen and I got a gameboy game to load into a green screen. When I switch cores its basically either a transcoding error or blank screens.
You guys need to test the various cores a post a list of recommended cores that are verified to work. Also your meta data scraper apparently has no idea what console its scraping for or even if its scraping a video game or not. I’ve got a game library full of movie posters mixed in with boxart and I’ve got sega box art showing up in the NES library. If this is experimental that is okay but you shouldn’t be charging for something with this many issues out of the gate. Maybe wait until its done or close to done before you charge for it. I am going to unsubscribe until this is a fully fleshed out product.
I don’t mean to sound like a jerk but the more work I have to do, the less I want to pay for this service.
The restart issue also solved it for me. However, there appears to be no way to “interact” with the game, it simply plays as as video. Some sort of hint showing how to interact with it would be helpful at this point.
Do you have a controller connected to the device your playing it on? From what they are saying, if you can connect a controller to it then it should “just work.”
Nope. Their FAQs state that a keyboard works, but it clearly doesn’t. The games play like a typical video game waiting for a quarter, but you cannot interact with them. I don’t think this product is quite ready for prime time.
Keyboard mapping seems to be defective, at least in my experience. Anyone have success with it? I see the RetroArch map grid, but only the S, X, Z, Right Shift, and Return keys work. This lets me insert coin and start a game, but it’s useless without, y’now, full controls. Can’t kill too many Asteroids by only facing to the right. And regardless of the Libretro doc, Plex shouldn’t make us look for it. There should be easy instructions right there using the Plex client. This feels kinda beta for something I’m going to have to pay for in a week.
Based on the answers from the Plex Employees - it is clear that “keyboard only” is not an option, and that “joystick required” should be added to the System Requirements list. This is not a usable product without a controller of some kind, so not suitable for some users.
I had issues with keyboard use. I figured out some of them, but that was a pain. I have a Beboncool controller I got 5 years ago and plugged it into my PC and it is working well for the games I did a quick play on. I’m enjoying the games, especially Adventure, I haven’t played it for such a long time. Can’t wait for the weekend!! If I didn’t have the controller, I’d probably cancel the 7 day trial before it ended so I wouldn’t be charged. But as of now, I’m keeping my subscription.
Defective keyboard mapping isn’t isolated to Asteroids. The keys I listed are the only responsive keys in all games I tried. It would seem reasonable to pause the free-trial clock on Plex Arcade until keyboard input is fixed and those of us without game controllers can, y’know, trial it. Thanks.
I already canceled my trial. Was not going to be able to adequately test it on a keyboard (my only option). Hopefully they reset the “trials” so people can give it another go once these kinks are worked out.
This is the first time I’ve ever had a bumpy experience with Plex in years of using it. So I’m not going to be too worked up about it.
Keyboard does work, it just takes a bit to find out which keys. Also remember that a controller of some sort is the obvious choice. I have managed to play a few on my phone, it has an on screen keyboard. Everyone needs to remember that this is a first release, give it a bit of time, it’ll be sweet.
