Plex assigning 'Various Artists' albums to random artists

I have an iTunes/Apple Music managed library and have been using plex for a few years. Things were working ok, but I recently spun everything back up and updated to latest plex, and something happened with my ‘Various Artists’ albums.

I do have - as suggested - all of the albums with ‘Various Artists’ as the Album artist. They were previously marked as ‘compilations’ in iTunes and thus stored in a Compilations folder. This seems to have confused recent Plex versions, and many of the albums were assigned to R. Kelly (go figure!).

I tried a test and removed the compilation flag from a few albums, which then iTunes reorganized into the ‘Various Artists’ folder as expected. I then rescanned library and re-scanned metadata. These new albums were assigned to yet another random artist from my library.

Can someone tell me what I have to do to get this metadata fixed again, and have various artists work?

I haven’t looked this closely in a while so it’s possible this bug happened earlier, but I only noticed it this week after running my plex linter…

I haven’t used a media server in some time. I previously bought Mezzmo and loaded it up and then realized it hasnt been updated in the last couple years. So I looked up the new hotness and decided to try Plex.

I’m having this same issue with “Various Artists” it made a ton of albums, scattered songs throughout this mass of albums and completely screwed up track numbering with many duplicates in each list.

Mezzmo had handled my playlist folders fine. Any update on when this can be fixed. I’d want that before purchasing any new media server software.
