Plex auto-play isn't working properly

I’m following up again on this issue. I haven’t heard back since your post above from July 9th. Do you have an update on this I hope? I can provide logs if you’d like, just let me know what you would want.

I am trying very hard to be patient as I know people are busy but it’s been several months now since I first posted this.

As I probably mentioned earlier, I developed two separate on-line music software businesses used by hundreds of radio stations in the U.S. and around the world, as well as record company label executives so I know first hand about the development. The second one took over two years to develop and was done in .Net. I know about all the subsequent fixing of bug(s) and adding new features and so forth.

What’s frustrating to me is that I used the Plex software for several years where I could start a movie and drift off to sleep without it repeating over and over and wearing my battery down.

My sense is that this behavior I first reported in early May had to do with the splitting of Music and Photos from the Movies. I could certainly be wrong. Regardless, since Plex worked great for the several years without any incident related to a video not repeating, it seems like it should be an easy fix.

I sure hope to hear good news from you as I am getting a little disgruntled, I’m not going to lie. I do hope I’ve been professional and kind in my follow-ups as I know there’s a lot going on I’m sure, but I truly hope this has finally been resolved.

Thank you!

Hello again…

I’m reaching out to see if the QA folks who reproduced it have fixed the issue so that a movie I start playing on my iPad won’t repeat over and over after it finishes?

I am a loyal Plex Pass user. I hope there is good news with this.

Thank you.

I can only say there were updates to bug report just yesterday so they are still actively working on this.

Thank you for your reply. I’m familiar with the bug report stuff (Bug Tracker and the like when I developed my last software, which took over 2 years to develop). I know they’ll be able to get this figured out.

As reported, this never used to be an issue with the movie videos so hopefully they can track it back to some change that caused this. I sort of wondered if it happened when photos and whatever they did were split apart instead of being together?

Anyway, I do thank you again for your reply.

Hello sir, I’m writing again in the hope that this has finally been resolved. I know how busy things are but this is fairly major issue for me in how I use Plex.

Do you have any good news for those of us waiting for this to be fixed?

This should be fixed in upcoming 2025.29.0

That’s great news. Can you tell me when that would be? Is that in the coming days, or is it in a couple of weeks or more?

Thanks for staying on top of this for us.

i would say maybe 2 weeks at most but I don’t have an exact ETA

Terrific!!! I can’t wait. Thanks Big Wheel!

The new update works now! I went to my Apple App store to update several unrelated apps and noticed PLEX had a new version released 2 days ago. In the list of FIXES, I noticed it said “Player: Playback could restart at the very end of playback for episodes of movies longer than 60 minutes.” I was very excited to try it.

I tested a movie yesterday after updating the Plex App. I picked a movie that was about 90 minutes long. After it ended, it didn’t restart! YAY!! It showed “Just Played” after it ended. I then tested about a 2 hour movie today and it also didn’t restart. It sure appears that this has been resolved.

I wanted to share the great news. I will test it tonight for the official confirmation. I always start a movie when I got to bed and drift off to it which is why having it repeat is horrible (it drains the battery down to being dead by morning). So this is terrific if it’s finally fixed. I’ll see what tonight brings but I have to believe it will behave the same as my testing yesterday and today showed.

Thanks!
