Plex Auto Quality Not Working

Hello all,

I am trying to get auto quality working for my apps including Android. I can only get the serve to direct play if the “Play Smaller Videos at Original Quality” option is checked. If it’s not checked the app will crash. Any help to get this feature working will be great thanks.

All apps crash?

unfortunately the only app I have that is officially supported is android. My PHT is on a linux machine that is not official as far as I know. I can get the files to Direct Play but I other then that I have issues. The Server is on a dedicated desktop so it has plenty of power.

I was specifically asking if all the apps you use crash when you disable that option or is it just the Android app crashing.

For Android, please cause the crash, then restart the app and get me the logs.

I have not seen the desktop app crash yet but I will test that out and try to force it to transcode.

I hope these are the logs you’re looking for.

That log is Plex Web. Are you having issues with that too?

For Android logs, https://support.plex.tv/articles/201573117-android-android-tv-fire-tv-logs/.

The android app log seems to be too large to paste directly I’ll cut it short and paste it. I cannot seem to get any transcoding working whatsoever either through my HT on another network or through android. Over the wan that is locally it works and direct play works over the wan as well. Just transcoding in any capacity.

Save the text to a file and upload the file.

ok now the app does not crash but exits saying transcoder had to close due to an issue. Progress I hope

Ok, that sounds like an issue with your server, so I will need the PMS logs to look into the transcoder issue. I’ll still need the Android app logs to look into that crash.

any luck looking those over?

Sorry, just getting back around to this issue. The PMS logs you posted above were also for Plex Web. For PMS logs, do this.

Settings \ Manage \ Troubleshooting \ Download logs

You will get a zip file. Attach that zip file.

Please recreate and provide new logs.

I hope this is what you’re looking for and has enough info to help, thanks.

Hey all I fixed the issue. Seemed the docker was mounting the drives as "noexec’ and that needed to be removed.

Thanks

Oh good timing. I just heard back from one of the devs. “could be the appsupport dir is on a fs mounted noexec?”

I don’t know what that means but sounds like the same thing you found and fixed.
