As the title says, this new change is horrible and I cant switch it off, and no matter what settings I choose, it just decides to convert automatically, which in turn works horribly with google drive (and I see auto wasnt activated for plex cloud for this reason most likely) and I’m using it as a mount to host my media, resulting in bans pretty fast as the auto quality decides to download the file from the drive constantly, which doesnt happen if its in a fixed setting.
Even worse, if the video is a 328p video, I can now no longer choose “maximum” for it to play it as is, if I click on maximum it defaults back to auto automatically. and I have to choose the nearest lowest quality for it to stick.
So plex is ignoring both the setting with auto being unchecked AND the setting that says to play smaller videos at their original quality since it wont even accept their original quality now.
Right now I’m just looking to downgrade, honestly.
Came here to also say that this sucks. Been running Plex for almost 2 years with a handful of 4K’s that some would stream and no longer can. Thought it was an issue with their client settings at first until I tried myself and found after a few secs it would switch over to 1080p with more than enough bandwidth at gigabit to handle it.
It really sucks that it’s been almost 4 months without an answer. How hard is it, Plex?? All of my files have been permanently converted to the specifications of my Chromecast, there are no subtitles at all to confuse it, and I have default set to Original Quality, but every time I play a new video, it automatically changes to Converting 2mb/s, even though I have plenty of CPU, the files and their codecs are compatible, and I have Direct Play and Direct Stream enabled. What is the point of having a quality setting if Plex is just going to ignore it??
I just encountered this issue also. This is very annoying. I keep bouncing around between 1080p, 720p and SD. I have 50mbps upstream and ~20 down on the remote end. ???!
