So I just noticed that at some point, Plex has turned on English subtitles in Plex Web on many of my English language movies. I do not want this. The only time I want subtitles on is when there is a ‘forced’ flag. The best I can guess is that Plex has turned on all english subs with a ‘default’ flag. Moreover, on some of my titles that do have a ‘forced’ subtitle track, Plex has not selected this automatically. I have tried playing around in the language section in settings a bit and can’t seem to fix it. How do I fix this and reset my library so that only subs with a ‘forced’ flag are enabled?
Not sure if it’s related, but I reported a few months ago that selecting an alternate audio track, for example stereo to surround, on any app forces the subtitles to become enabled. It happens even when your files are properly tagged with the correct audio language. So, if for any reason, you have ever manually selected an alternate audio track, the subtitles will become enabled.
I usually include a stereo and surround track on my media, and most apps won’t automatically select the surround track properly, so I have to manually select that audio, and then dis
able the subtitles. I was told it was more or less a “feature” of Plex, but according to @OttoKerner it sounds like a bug in the server if just selecting stereo to surround. Don’t know if it was actually reported as such, though.

Take a look here.

More importantly here.
Though this won’t help if your audio is not set correctly(english).
Oh, another thing you have to watch out for is plex remembers track settings, so if you select any track manually, it stays. A request to have that changed.
Yeah, all of my stuff is set correctly, as I mentioned in my post several months ago. It’s a new "feature: that really isn’t as far as I’m concerned. You can try it yourself to prove it’s broken if you have a video with two properly identified audio tracks in your preferred language. Even turns subtitles on if you want to select the “director’s comments” that are in your preferred language. That way you can read the subtitles for the actual movie, while listening to the directors comments.
I’m convinced there’s a bug in the recent version of PMS or plex web. I’ve been using Plex for years and never had this issue until now. I added some new movies to my server and it keeps turning on the subtitles by default. I’ve verified the settings everyone has described. Something is borked.
