Plex becoming a standard install product

I am noticing more and more of that Plex is included in either hardware platforms or also preinstalled as a client on computers.

I recently purchased 10 dell business class OptiPlex machines with windows 10 and found the Plex client to be preinstalled on all of them.

On one hand I am happy that the product is expanding on too many different platforms but at the same time there is always the fear that they will get gobbled up by a larger entity that me then destroy the product.

Hopefully I am just overreacting and this will never happen. Again I am happy to see it being deployed as a common solution.

which Plex client was preinstalled on your dell?

I also recently had to setup a Lenovo 470, which had plex pre-installed too

Jeez … why would you ship a notebook with pre-installed software, that is not functional without prior setup/configuration??? Plex is not a virus-scanner or a minesweeper app.

Pure desperation … I don’t see any other reason why Plex would do something like this.

Are we sure the Plex client app isn’t tied to your account and automatically downloading based on that? I can’t fully speak for Windows, but I now Android does this. On first sign in, it will download your apps you have installed on other devices.

Guaranteed it is not tied to an account. I purchased some Lenovo systems, and the W10 Plex App was installed. I upgraded a W7 system in January to W10, and the Plex App was preloaded. I do not use a Microsoft account, only local account, so it would have no way of knowing who was using the system.

We don’t tell any PC manufacturer to install any player app. That is why I was asking what client.

the only thing that is preinstalled is PMS on the Nvidia Shield and some NAS.

The native windows 10 plex client. Though these are refurb dells so I will compare to new dells I purchase for clients. Though refurbs from dell are reimaged so the machine does not have any previous customer data.
