Tried using the new Plex app in early access and ran into a few issues. Tried using my playlist and there is no shuffle button anymore. Also while watching episodes of tv shows all episodes will not play continuously and now there is a 15 second count down now. I use Plex on my Vizio TV and have never had any issues with this before are there going to be any fixes to these issues.
What client platform is that (and which exact version of the app)?
Just to have a more complete picture… could you also share what version of Plex Media Server you have installed in that setup?
Plex for Vizio 3.13.13
Vizio Smartcast 9.0.7.3
Filing an issue to look into this.
Having the countdown when playing a playlist (if that’s what you are referring to here) is a bug. Filing an issue for that.
If you are playing an episode normally, then the countdown between episodes is normal, and you can click OK on the already focused next item to start playback immediately.
Thanks for the report!
Client version is 5.0.0 I guess that’s the information that you are needing. The Plex app is a pre installed app on these TV’s
Major differences in the new app:
- No shuffle button for playlist. (Being addressed)
- No play all episodes button for individual seasons. Can only watch seasons in shuffle mode.
- Can’t skip forward while watching shows old app you could skip through 10 minutes at a time. Now it’s only 30 seconds
Filing an issue to check into this.
I’m not seeing this in the old app. Seeking with left/right or the <<
/>>
buttons on the OSD in the old app is skipping -10/+30 seconds for me. How are you achieving the 10 minute skip?
Forward and backwards is -10/+30 and the up and down buttons are +10/-10 minutes
Thanks for pointing that out. In v5.0.2, the channel +/-
button will now allow you to skip +/- 10 minutes (as well as skip tracks when playing audio).
Good deal any time frame on when the shuffle button will be added to the playlist, play all button added to the tv shows to play them in order, and when the app will go live?
I like the new interface and the UI performance is improved. You have however neglected to include a delete button to remove content. I have switched back to the standard version for now.
Thanks for the report. The delete option will be available in the next update.
Playing the first episode of a season will play all episodes of the season (and beyond). There aren’t any plans to create a dedicated option for playing a single season for start to finish.
No time frame, but it’s being added to the design, and we’ll add it to the app shortly after that is completed.
When you play any episode of a show, it will start on that episode and play the remaining episodes in order. If you play the first episode, it will play the whole show in order. There aren’t any plans to have a button dedicated to the purpose of playing from the first episode.
I can’t say precisely but it shouldn’t be overly long. It all depends on how many issues are remaining, as the main purpose of a preview such as this is to get broader usage and hopefully find any bugs or missing bits that we haven’t already identified.
Still having issues with the app on Vizio Smartcast TVs when trying to play season episodes. TV will play a five to six episodes and will stop and you have to restart it.
Using version 5.0.4
Could you be more specific about what you mean when you say: “… will stop and you have to restart it”
If you mean it stops on the Playing Next
screen and you need to manually click on the next item, this is expected if you haven’t interacted with the app. It will only auto play for 2 hours from the last interaction (such as bringing up the OSD, seeking, etc.) and then you have to manually start the next episode. This is meant to prevent it continually playing if you’ve fallen asleep or otherwise left playback unattended.
O ok I see that wasn’t in the old app. The old app would play continuously even if you had went to sleep is there a way to put that back in there? That was the best part of actually having a playlist.
@jasonali1_gmail.com: If you’re playing a playlist, it shouldn’t show the Playing Next
screen. That was broken, but was fixed in the latest update that went live about 11 hours ago. There is another bug which was reported where playing an episode in a playlist is just playing the show starting with that episode vs. playing the items in the playlist. We’re looking into that, but once that is fixed playlists should work pretty much the same as before.
Are we going to get a shuffle button for the playlist on Vizio Smartcast TVs?
It’ll be in the next update.
