Plex can't read my MKV files

If you were at all capable of following advice, you would have had that information from my very first reply.

what advice? you just said give me logs. maybe if you explained how simply it would be better, winscp for starters. you assumed you were talking to someone who had experience with linux, your mistake. thanks to dane things finally got rockin. be helpfull, don't just spout what you want.

no it isn't, again, if you follow advice to search it out, you will know why. (you only need to read your own log files to see it not working correctly)

ok oh wise one, tell me what you see.

And another thing, thanks for the cold welcome. when you see someone say hello, i'm new here, you might want to say something to welcome them. it's a personal touch that makes people like this place. frankly you're not making me feel welcomed at all.

No, my first reply to you (and my 2nd, and even 3rd) were that your NAS does not support transcoding, read the NAS guide to understand what that means -  if you had done that, the rest of this thread would have been totally unnecessary as you would have had the exact info as it is all in that guide. WinSCP was only needed so you could see your own info in your own log files as you did not believe it when I told you what the issue was.

You'd already started bad mouthing by the time i joined this thread.  I must be so horrible to still give you answers, and then *still* walk you through working out the answers yourself when you basically refused to read anything anyone was recommending to you and repeatedly accused people of being wrong and you knowing better.  Anyway, you ended up with your answer the very very long way through your own doing.

IMHO, you where very rude, and first in post 14, you told us more or less that you didn't have a clue about neither Linux nor QNAP.

This is a community, where we try to help each other, but in order to do so, we at least expect people to talk nicely, cuz otherwise the Ninja's/Moderators might hit you with a warning point, as well as you might scare people away from the thread, even though the might know the correct answer, but just doesn't want's to start/participate in a fight.

When all above is said, you found your solution in the respond from Trudge, so please flag it as answered

*still*

Does this means, that you're simply an old fart like me, or is there actually real NTP access to the forums?

If so, then *PLEASE* tell me howto

Best Regards

Tommy

i've reset the qnap to factory settings + installing Plex so i can get a clean fresh bunch of logs.

That was indeed a nice gesture, and something most people forget about, so KUDO to you for that.

FUI: Next time reporting some issue here, all you have to do is to go into QNAP management tool, select "Applications/QPKG Center", and disable PLEX followed by enabeling it.

Everytime Plex Server starts, the logs will do a roll-over

Like you, Smitty123, I am also not a programmer.  My plex server does not "see" my mkv collection no matter how many times I refresh my library. So to avoid getting a barrage of requests for information that turns out to be irrelevant, I thought I'd ask you for a succinct summary of the information you so painstakingly gathered to correct this issue.  Thank you.

Wow.....You responded to a post that's 1.25 years old here ;-)

Please start a new thread instad, where you in plain word tell us the what QNAP you got, as well as what you mean by "see my mkv" collection

if those of your who are having mkv problems haven't found the answer yet perhaps I can help.

1.  make sure your tv downloads are in a folder for tv files only  ie. TV Shows

2.  make sure move files are in there own folder also ie: Movies.

this is because of the way plex interprets the the two in the meta files.

3.  You won't believe this.  If your tv show won't open even though you have put it in the proper folder, try this.  make a copy of the tv show, go to your movie folder and paste it there.  open the plex server and there it is.  rather strange but apparently the wrong info is encoded in the header and it thinks it's a movie.  haven't had the reverse yet but wouldn't be surprised if it worked in reverse, movie to tv folder.  enjoy.  hope this will help someone in the future also.

3.  You won't believe this.

Correct...I won't  ;)

ah a mighty god of knowledge has spoken, all bow down.  I have been working with computers longer than you have probably been alive.  one thing is for sure, never believe you know it all.

lets see if you know what this is and what year it was manufactured.  Rockwell Collins 910.  my first.  assine people in this world.

ROTFL......And here I give up......but regarding working with computers, I'm not so sure....I've got +25 years in that buissness

Yes I know this is an old thread, however this worked for me. Thanks.

I have the same problem with only one MKV file, plex won't play it but no any error tips though. All my rest MKV (H.264) works just fine. It seems problems didn't get sorted here so I'll just try transcoding. Thank you guys:)

probably too late, but the answer is in his first post, he has a Synology not a QNAP so his first mistake was posting in the wrong section, should have realised by how rude he was that he was an inferior Synology owner not a QNAP one!!!

I was hunting this issue too. If video station isn’t working any more, plex can’t handle mkv files.
