i really need to speak to someone about setting up my plex so it can read my library from an external hardrive. I have read the forums but do not understand them… i have no coding experience… and limited technical knowledge. I had plex set up before but unfortunately my hardrive got wiped and i lost everything. I really need someone to just talk me through it. It worked previously but now it just wont offer me the option to locate it or find it

Do you have Plex downloaded and installed?
If so which Version?

I need to check on the MacOS as it’s my desktop at home but I think its Version 10.14: Mojave
And yes I have plex downloaded… I uninstalled the old and redownloaded the new versions… and also uninstalled it from my Macbook pro as I thought that might be causing issues
Just why I have you too… in trying to get it working I deleted all my old library from Plex… which I was trying to export so I had a list but couldn’t understand the forums
Is there any way to get that back and export it that doesn’t involved a genius… just a Ninja maybe
My whole hardive got wiped last year so it would be great to have that list to help me rebuild it

When saying your hard drive, you mean internal drive. Not your storage drive with your content.
No i meant my external hard drive. That is how i had it set up before
I just use the computers hard drive for the operating system and applications

Yes of cause, if you have erased your drive without a backup, sadly it is gone. Well in a form you can use it to play content. Now is it still present in the Trash on your laptop and you have not emptied the Trash that a different story. You have not described the method of deletion but sounds like you have done it from inside Plex, if so it will be in the Trash if not emptied.
Yes i deleted it from Plex… so hopefully it will still be in the trash. Is that the trash on my Mac on somwehere within plex?
If you have not Emptied the Trash it will be present in mac’s Trash. You will need to drag it out to the already open finder window/ Volume ( External Drive).

Okay… so seems i had emptied the trash so need to start from scratch… the problem now is it is not giving me an option to add media files… it just keeps coming up with a download plex media server which i have but there is no start up wizard to set a server up… this is really doing my head in. I know it should be simple but its just not working as it says it should on any of the online forums/guides or you tube videos… where is no set up wizard appearing or any options to set up a server?

i finally managed to get this sorted myself… not sure what screenshots you were expecting me to send. I would however love to know why Plex are not responding to the huge two year thread about the xbox buffering issues and how exactly the support is supposed to work/be monitored etc… just supported you guys with the life time pass so would appreciate an awnser
Xbox, can you explain the connection to this discussion. It seems you have strayed to another issue. It would be advised to start your own Discussion on the subject.
As for screenshots that was a reaction from your statement in your first posting. ( limited technical knowledge)
You have not expanded on your solution which is a disappointment, the forums are about sharing solutions. Yet you wish to rant of no support from your peers. Very Disappointed in your position.
