Plex Cast - Cast online videos from your browser to your Plex Client

This doesn't seem to work with Roku Plex client.  I either get "Media is not supported" or "Waiting..." or "Client is not responding".

Also, the video instructions are confusing are the correct steps...

1) click on plex cast chrome plug-in

2) setup ip address of server

3) click on search for clients button

4) select client (Roku for example)

5) then you get a plex cast screen that does nothing

6) switch to another tab or window where a youtube video is playing

7) click on the plex cast chrome plug-in icon again

8) magically the youtube video is sent to the Roku?  <<< this step doesn't work

Hi thanks for this extension just need a little help after i type in my ip the toggle down to select server is blank and then list as undefined what am i doing wrong???

and even if i go ahead and leave it blank i then get an error box that pops up

Unfortunately I don't have any Roku client to test with. The steps you are describing are correct. Can you try this:

  • test 1: can you add an online video (say youtube for exemble) to your play queue via the "Plex it" bookmark and see it if plays on your Roku client (it doesn't work on iPhone for example).
  • test 2: can you play a local video on your Roku client and try to control it (play/pause/change subs) via Plex Web.

Thanks

This is strange. Are you sure you are entering the right IP address?? You should not include the port in ip (correct example: 192.168.0.1)

Hi, i'm having a problem, i hope you can help. I downloaded the plex cast, but when i setup the ip adress i doesn't appear any clients, i think i have everything alright, my plex server is open, i have the plex in my samsung tv opened but the plex cast won't find any plex client. Do you know what might be the problem? Thank you

The pms ip i'm using is 192.168.1.2

I do not think you can cast to the Samsung app.  It does not support Plex's regular casting feature so I do not think this version will work on it either.

I am having the same issue with my Roku.  I have an XDS.  Videos from the PlexIt queue (Watch Later) work fine.  I can cast to it from the WebApp or from my Android App.  During thes etup it did ask to authenticate my account which was successful.  It found the Roku XDS, but when I hit the PlexCast button I get a "Client is not responding :(".  Then after a few seconds the screen cahnges and shows Roku XDS in the top left corner and the player controls comes on, but there is no video.  If I leave this page up and play something directly on the Roku, the screen shows the file is playing and the counter moves up, but none of the controls work.

Does not work on my Roku 1. I can select the Roku as a client, but when I try to cast the video, it says "Client is not responding :(". I will try the tests you gave to roku57 when I get home from work.

Looking forward to this app.  I have a new amazon firetv that I'm trying to get up and running.  So far everything works except casting, I can use the plex it bookmarklet and that works, but every time I try to use your app I get an error message that says client not found, yet when I run the setup everything checks out and I can see my android firetv device?  Weridness, is there a simple setting that I am missing?

What determines the online video quality?  Sometimes I would like things to be only 480p..  (like when my connection is kinda saturated by other stuff).  I have plex's preferences set to 480p for online content, but plexcast plugin videos all seem to stream (and buffer..... ) at 720p.

Is this extension still available?  I'm getting a French error page which translated says "An error has occurred: Product not found. It may have been deleted by its author."

Plex Inc has asked for the extension to be removed since in was not compliant with its trademark guidelines. I currently don't have the time to work on it but I will definitely put it back online as soon as I will be able to.

Plex is just mad..Is there any plan to make it compliant?

I hope you keep working on this, it's very good work and it's nice to finally see someone pull this off. I've been looking for a way to cast to my rasplex for a long time.

Any plans to get this running on the Android or iPhone? I would actually pay money for this..

I uploaded a revision today that will make Cast Rocket for Plex (Plex Cast new name) compliant with Plex trademark guidelines and hopefully easier to use as well. It shoud be reviewed by Google soon...

I also thought about bringing it on Android / iPhone but as for as I know, there is no way to have extensions on mobile ..

I was contacted by Google at the beginning of the week to provide them with further details on the changes done to the extension. It should be processed in the days/weeks to come.

You wouldn't need to use chrome extensions to get this to work would you? You could just add an option to the android so when you click the "Share" button on a video like on YT or whatever, "Cast Rocket" shows up as an option and when you click it, it shoots it over to your Plex client. You already wrote the code for sending the videos to plex, so I think it's really the same thing except it's on Android. But I have no idea how your plugin works, maybe it relies on Chrome.. No idea.

You're the only hope! I would actually pay money for that app. Did I say that already?

At least your code is on Github, maybe someone will be able to use it to pull off something like that. It would just be nice to throw some youtube on the Rasplex instead of always having to get into a movie/show when I want to watch something(or go to my PC and change the video and re-cast)

The chrome-store-link ist dead. Any alternative? I am not aware of how to install the .js code from github manually.

Thanks for help. BR, Martin

Here's how you do that:

  1. Go to the github page referenced in the first post and download as a zip file (it's on the mid-lower right) to your desktop (or wherever).
  2. Unzip the zip file, you'll be left with a folder with all the code in it.
  3. Go to the extensions section in chrome either through the menu, or by entering "chrome://extensions/" in the address bar.
  4. Click the "Developer mode" checkbox at the top of the extensions screen.
  5. Click on "Load unpacked extension" and select the folder you unzipped in step 2.
  6. Done.

Hi,

Nice extension!

I have a question, Would it be possible to add the feature of casting an entire tab content?
