Plex causes major system crash on iPad

When playing a video in the Plex app on my iPad Pro, often interacting with the system UI - swiping up to go home, or pulling down the notification shade - will freeze up not just Plex but the whole system, with the screen freezing and touchscreen and buttons becoming unresponsive for a minute or two before it crashes back to the home or lock screen. Presumably this is also related to a defect in iOS, since one buggy app shouldn’t be able to crash the whole OS like that, but it only occurs in Plex so the issue is there as well. It has persisted across multiple app and OS updates.

A constant source of frustration! It basically means any kind of multitasking on the iPad requires stopping the video and closing the app window first. This is the only app I’ve ever experienced this on

I don’t have the crashing problem, but I do have the problem it gets stuck if minimized temporarily to the Dock while multitasking that if I wish to close the app out it is impossible to bring up the context menu to “Hide App”. It stays running and is impossible to get rid of. In a way I’d rather it did crash. Can’t open it, can’t close it.

Since release I’ve had every other reported problem, but not this one, on both my iPadOS beta and non beta devices. Also haven’t noted regular crashing as a theme in the forums for a while (the old version is a totally different story for me).

I’m wondering if this might be hardware specific, what kind of iPad are you running, I’ve noticed my iPad Pro M1 (2021) is starting to struggle a bit in terms of GUI/UX performance in general, but still usable.

Also might pay to upload your client logs, can’t see anything odd in your server logs, beyond possible duplication of your Star Trek main folder :slight_smile:

In the new client, tap your profile picture/letter/thing in top right hand corner, click settings, about, then download logs.

I am also on an iPad Pro 2021 M1. I have not noticed any other bad performance, crashes, responsiveness issues anywhere else - this is the only major issue I experience, and I only experience it with Plex.

I not sure if this issue is exclusive to Plex New Experience, browsers are freezing with similar symptoms. Currently I restart my iPad Pro daily which seems to stem any problems.

Strongly advice iPad OS 26.0.1

Having said the above there have also been many Ad Blocker updates which could have been the culprits.
