Plex causing a unique problem: please help me

Hello, I’m using my Dad account since he owns the surround sound system. Just refer to me as Jacob in this thread. Here is my problem: to make matters clear I rip music off from online videos. To which I then spend the day looking up the correlating music online to fill in my song properties correctly. I’m a bit OCD, as you’ll see from me going out of my way to capitalized Plex all through this thread opener. My Dad main PC is a HP Pavilion Desktop 460, with two external hard drive. The Music in on the main PC, and we used the Plex Streaming through a Roku hook up to a flat screen.

About a year ago this work fine. No problem. Then A mandatory systems server update comes about 9 months ago and I need to refresh some data that I thought was right at the time. I currently have exactly 450 songs. The refresh was spread about so I had to make my life easy and delete all the music on my PC and copy the new and correct data on my Dad PC. Not all the music is ripped from online videos, some are from the official CDs the band release converted into MP3 format.
This has cause me a massive headache. I have some wide taste so some shows I watch are from foreigner films, some from anime with good stories. Example is from Girls und Panzer der Film. An already existing song (Säkkijärven Polkka) was reformat for a scene in the movie. I can’t list another example cause that other some movie cause the song listed on another app is in Japaneses kanji.

My Problem is this: I have struggle on and off with the Plex service trying to get it to work and display the correct information. If a song is from a musical it Plex declares from its services that an individual song is from Various Artist. This is annoying as heck cause I trying to give credit to the people actually singing the song. This has also lead to another problem; since Plex can’t find the right music I had to go online and grab album covers from the 1960s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and so on to when the song first came out. After putting in and making sure each song has the correct album image then comes the Title Problem. Since I type in the information Plex fails to grab from the mp3 properties then it decides after I spend 10 minutes fiddling with the machine on the title. A day later it erase it and I only know the song is there from the album image I put in manually cause Plex can’t do it job.

It been 9 months and I can see certain times when Plex does work and matches both the song to the album and display info on how the song was created. Example is I Love L.A. by Randy Newman, (this song has been edited to remove the intro from the slow burn about other cities open with the guitar intro for L.A.) I’m tired of fighting to look for a solution using Plex interface rules to make it do the job it should 9 months ago.

Please, Plex I.T. department, can you help a guy who enjoys great and certain particular taste in music.

Hard equate the fact that nobody from Plex ever bothered to reply to this plea for help with the claims they make for the frequency with which they look at the forums.

I am faced with similar problem. my workaround for now is to use musicbrainz picard to pick up the “ID” in every song (preferable mp3, or FLAC if possible), embed it to metadata (use the true release year and album for old music, just google it), and use correct file structuring.

the drawback is I am used to mixed music in one folder for playlist, and now, its like every artist each. quite frustating, but with correct metadata (and musicbrainz IDs in each file), plex scanner detects my library flawlessly, and I can use the radio function (library radio, style radio, random, etc) from either plex app or plexamp.

Maybe there’s a solution for this problem in the future, but currently, linking timely correct metadata manually is plagued by its own problem (too many release, not always correct) so you it is preferable to do it MANUALLY BY HAND…
