I’m in the process of migrating my media libraries to Plex. Migrating movies has gone very well but having some trouble with my music library.
The other day I added 500 songs, clicked “Scan Library Files” as I normally do, and now the 200 songs that I initially imported all have missing song Titles. What’s really weird is if I sort my library by Title, the songs with missing titles are not grouped together, but are scattered as if the titles are still there but are just not displaying properly.
Most of my song files are MP3 or FLAC format and have Title, Album Artist, Album, Etc. saved within the file metadata.
What would be my best course of action to avoid causing further problems? Reinstalling Plex, doing Manage Library>Refresh All Metadata, doing Manage Library>Analyze, or something else?
Refresh Metadata on the affected artists and albums.
In the case of mp3 files, make sure the embedded metatags are conformant to the ID3v2.3 format.
(Don’t use ID3v2.4)
Refresh metadata on the affected songs didn’t do anything, which seems to be a common unsolved problem. So I reluctantly clicked “Refresh All Metadata,” which took 5-10 minutes, but it worked! If I find any songs with incorrect Titles/Artists, will fix them manually.
I have the same issue. Metadata magically dissapears. I refreshed all missing Data, but it keeps vanishing. Even on songs already correctly imported. Now there are lots of songs with missing title or artist.
This never happened before.
Edit: It seems, that when I add new files to the Folder, the tags getting removed?!?
I now checked the logs and found some entries:
“Library section 11 (Musik Collection) will be updated because of a change in…”
“ERROR - Unable to find client profile for device; platform=windows, platformVersion=10, device=, model=standalone”
Dont know if they are related, but that file wasnt changed and Plex removed the Title. On some other songs, also the artist was removed. Album and Albumartist are still there.
I think this is a really annoying bug, that was added with some recent updates, because this never happened before.
I’ll add all tags again and keep an eye on the tags, after I added some new files to the lib.
Dont know what else I can do for now.
I now can confirm that the Metadata is removed from some songs when adding new files to the library.
I also checked the logfiles again but didnt found something useful.
This is totally bull****! No support on this even if I’m not the only one with this issue it seems.
I just tested with only one directory, a new Collection and different settings for the agents and library. It doesnt matter what I configure, the Metadata is always wrong and incomplete. As I said before, I never had an issue with this for my library with over 10.000 songs! This just occurs recently.
I am fighting the same problem. I have manually typed in (and Locked) the title fields in Plex, even though the ID3 tags are present), and each time I add a new song to the library and the library scans for updates, the same songs lose their titles.
I am really getting concerned about the future ‘upgrades’ to Plex now after the removal of DVR EPG and Music lookup features. It all worked fine before so I don’t know what the team is up to.
@Ryan_R
Exactly! Even when locking Artist or Title, after the next scan, the data is removed.
Why isn’t there an option to totally ignore ALL agents and only use the ID3 tag metadata?!?
I’ve uninstalled PMS and reinstalled Version 1.17.0.1841. I then went to the corrupted albums and chose Refresh Metadata - all song titles came back automatically.
I’ll wait for Plex staff to let us know in this thread when it’s safe to upgrade again - for now I’m staying on version 1.17.
So, a short update: It seems, that the issue is now resolved with the latest Plex update!
Metadata is still present, after I added new files. Also all manually changed data is not removed anymore!
I dont understand why no1 from the staff made a reply to clear things up and mention that they working on this issue?!?
Would have saved me a lot of nerves…
Still happening in 1.18.2…
Seems to happen most on bootlegs or albums that don’t match with Plex Music, like when I create a greatest hits for a band that doesn’t have one. All my metadata is present and it finds it on rescan.
Seems like when it happens, AAC files have an artist listed but MP3 files have nothing, but all will sort and filter appropriately in lists.
I am having the same issue. It happened about a month ago and now I cannot get this corrected. Over 2500 songs that were perfectly structured and now I get nothing but blank titles. Unbelievably frustrating, mostly because it was working perfectly fine beforehand.
Same problem for me when I add titles to my “favorite songs” album with about 500 songs. The new titles are added in a new album, the existing songs lose the title. The solution I do now is remove the entire album, scan and then put it back and scan again. Please solve this bug.
I’m also having the same problem for the last several months. I manually go in and update the Metadata and next time I look it’s all messed up again. Very frustrating!
Same problem here. Only started using Plex for music a few weeks ago but have had the problem since I started. Like another user mentioned, the issue seems most common on more obscure artists/releases. Refreshing metadata temporarily fixes the issue but it returns. It’s also difficult to find tracks with the issue as you’d have to drill right down into every album one-by-one to spot the missing track titles (unless I’m missing an easier method).
The ‘Scanner’ and ‘Agent’ for my library are both set to “Plex Music” (as opposed to “Plex Music Scanner”, not that I know what the difference is) if that info helps. Also I have my server agents set to prioritise “local media assets” for artists and albums.
I have the same problem. It seems to be a problem with the new agent. Even if I try to rematch the album again the titles doesn’t show up, but when I unmatch the relevant album, the titles come back (the ID3Tags). The age of the files doesn’t matter, even files that lie in the library for months loose their titles.
