Plex causing hard crash with FRM

Hey folks,

Just started having a bizzare issue since the latest android tv beta.

I’m using a 2019 Shield Pro with framerate matching turned on and I can watch a movie successfully but on 3 separate movies whenever I hit the shields back button it hard locks the shield and freezes everything. The remote turns off and I lose total control. I’ve left it for 10 mins and it stays there just frozen with no signal. Have to pull power and do a full reboot of the shield.

When I turn framerate matching off everything is fine and works as expected. I’ve tried with io cache on and off and that made no difference.

These are 4k HDR Atmos files direct playing but this has never been an issue until now.

For now I’ve just disabled FRM in plex and instead just set my Shield to 23.97hz since we primarily watch movies but it will get annoying quickly if I want to watch YouTube or other media in 30/60 fps. Plus the UI is sluggish at 23.97fps.

I have no idea what’s going on and might just roll back versions or something unless someone has some advice. I don’t have a ton of free time to troubleshoot this and grab logs but I’ll do it if needed tomorrow as I’m headed to bed.

This is so frustrating.

These are pretty run of the mill MKVs and I don’t understand what the issue is.

It sounds like your device is crashing, which isn’t something that Plex can cause on the Android system - at least not when it’s blocking your homescreen.

Do you have Framerate Matching turned on at the system level, or are you using Plex’s refresh rate switching setting?

Using plexs FRM. I may have fixed it but did only limited testing after wiping the shield. I’ll report back after a few days and make sure.
