Running latest shield player beta and linux server Version 1.18.8.2468. I just did the newest Shield experience update and noticed 3 times that movies would freeze. If I back out of the movie I cant start it again. I get a server error. It says to reboot server. I am able to then play other movies but not that same file that died. If i reboot the server it works again.
Shield logs attached. Happened around 9pm.

Yeah, Iām seeing this as well. Latest Beta installed.
Although I donāt have to reboot the server, just exit from the movie, it goes back to the pre-play screen and I can play the movie again.
Yea mine wont play at all till i reboot the actual server. rebooting client doesnt help
The good thing is itās repeatable. Happens usually after 20 mins.
Shield Direct playing from server, no transcoding.
Just to add some more evidence to the situation.
The stoppage seems to happen every 18 minutes approx, sometimes a little under, sometimes a little over. I can now calculate when it is going to stop. There is no error message if you are watching an SD piece of material, but on 1080p the error is a āthe network connection is not fast enoughā problem, which we now is a bit of a catch all type of error.
I tried switching back to the old player and the same thing happened, stopping around the 18 minute mark.
Hopefully a dev will see this. It has only really started after the latest Beta release came out on Firday.
Yep Iām seeing this too on two bravia TV sets, it usually occurs from 20 to 40 minutes into playback. I canāt usually resume the content that failed, but I can play other media. My solution for now, as is so often the case, is to jump into Plex for Kodi.
Similar problem on two nvidia shield devices and one firetv stick. 15-30 minutes before freezing.
Tried disabling audio passthrough and moved to an 8gb ramdisk for transcoding. Niether helped.
Latest beta freezes on live TV, TV show recordings, movies. It shows itās still playing but the video freezes. Backing out and reopening works for me. Latest beta problem. Happens anywhere from 10 minutes to 20 minutes.

Maybe it freezes up when the buffer completes. Not sure but hereās the logs
Tried to watch a 1080p movie tonight. Still stopped roughly every 18 minutes. 1080p movies wonāt resume. Had to back out of movie, play a different movie, then come back to the one I was watching.
This is a pretty major bug. Iā m not sure how you can break the fundamental part of the app, playing media when it has been working fine. I sure hope a dev or someone sees this soon, it sort of makes the whole thing useless. I donāt mind testing beta software, but it would be nice to have some sort of indication that they are receiving the bugs we find and acting on them. Especially the ones that break the core functionality. Iām almost contemplating switching back to non-beta to get some stability.
Theyāll fix it next beta in a couple days. It was annoying, I had a back out of my show about five to six times and resume it.
Same issue here. Nvidia sheild Plex Media Player direct play. Stand alone Plex Server. Happening on all TV or Movies, regardless of resolution or bitrate. Happened after Upgrading shield to 8.1.1, but could be the Plex Player too.
New Beta out today and no mention of a fix in the fix list.
Couple days⦠not today lol. I sent logs. I advise you do the same to help fix the problem. Happy beta testing.
Iāve sent logs for other things recently, I donāt know if theyāve got them, I donāt know if they are correct or not (and the bug hasnāt been fixed, but thatās in the mobile app). Just some feedback about whether we are doing the right thing would be nice.
Someone ( Plex employee) will probably hop on here tonight. Letās see what they say on my logs that I sent. They need the Nvidia Shield logs under advanced and logging. It seems to be something with the buffer getting stuck.
@ManuelPG when you get a moment can you take a look at the logs above to see why beta video play back is getting stuck plz & Thank you!
Just wanted to update. My other two 2019 shields that were not updated to the newest āexperienceā update are having the same issues. So itās not the new shield update, itās def tied to the android Plex update.
Agreed. I installed non-beta and all is back to normal:).
Shield Log Attached.

The Playback froze at 21:06, although looking at the logs there were communications problems with the server from 21:04. The playback to the freeze was most likely the buffer playing out.
