So my Shield was giving me some annoyances (that I later found was Project Ivy) so I reset it.
Now PLEX was working perfectly fine with no hang-ups, freezes, loading issues, or streaming issues but since I factory reset the Shield, my Plex freezes when I open it, takes ages to load the content and then crashes without a warning.
I will do this for a good 10 mins till it finally works.
Now if I play something from the “play Next” area, it loads up and plays it NP.
When I do this, however, none of the PLEX on screen controls come up when I play/pause fast forward etc.
My ONN 4K Pro has no issues neither does my Shield Pro in my bedroom.
Just this 2015 Shield after I factor reset it.
I removed the SD card, no change.
I added a 128GB M2 drive for storage, no change.
Any ideas?
Uninstalled the PLEX updates on my Shield, now it looks like PLEX from 8 years ago but low and behold everything works & plays perfectly on this super old ghetto version so definitely there’s an issue with the newest update.
I have had the same problem with the Aug 18 update on my 2017 Shield. It’s completely unusable and I also had to regress to the original version from 8 years ago. Plex, you have an issue!
It’s so frustrating that I haven’t been using my Nvidia shield in the living room, I’m using my on 4K pro instead, which for all comparisons, is as fast and responsive as the shield but it would be nice to be able to go back to the shield!
Hopefully somebody from Plex acknowledges this is an issue
Also I was about to factory reset it to attempt to fix the problem, but apparently that doesn’t work, so thank you for posting and saving me the hassle.
My guess is there is a problem upgrading from such an old version to the new one. Try upgrading the app again, then clear the app data before using the app.
Yeah I tried that already, both data & cache, no change.
Maybe I will use ABD to uninstall completely then reinstall from play store, see if that works.
ADB for some reason wont work on this shield, keeps telling me to give it access when it has it.
I cleared the data & installed the update again, made sure not to sign in.
It seemed stable for the 1st min or so but as soon as I go to change any options or rearrange my categories, it freezes & crashes.
Back to the same issues so it didn’t work, unfortunately.
I use my Shield daily and haven’t seen a generic problem like this. There is a way I can make the app crash but it doesn’t usually do it on it’s own. If you can grab and post the app logs after the next crash there may be some info in there.
Yeah I have Plex media server installed it already was. It seems to automatically install when I update Plex but it doesn’t make a difference it’s still crashing for me.
Media server update from 2 or 3 days ago seemed to help for a short while and then it went back to the same crap
