Plex Client 8 24.0 is converting all AAC/EAC3 to Opus

Server Version# 1.24.4.5081
Player Version#:8.24.0.28408

After the update to the latest Plex Client on my NSTV (1ST Gen) EAC3, AAC is being transcoded to Opus.

This is not ideal to me. Because on my NSTV I have a USB DAC with a SPDIF optical out.

I need that the audio format to be AC3 or DTS. And before this update EAC3, AAC was being transcoded correctly to AC3.

Same here. Everything worked like a charm before but now playback fail or is output in Stere OPUS when audio source is in EAC3. I have passthought set to Optical with AC3.
Edit : I saw in Tautulli that EAC3 is converted to OPUS 5.1, but my reciver is unable to decode that so it output stereo sound, I would prefer a transcode to AC3 as before

I noticed the same, AAC now being converted to OPUS for mobile devices too

This problem seems to be fixed with the latest plex client update 8.25.0.28665 (11818ac3)

But I’m afraid it opened another bug. Now that is being correctly converted from AAC to AC3 (DD) the video playback is stuck in the first frame of the video while audio goes on.

This is happening even with files that don’t need transcoding and have AC3 (5.1 or 2.0)

Is everyone else suffering from this?

Did anyone figure out how to disable transcoding to OPUS? I’m using Plex on Android TV and my AV receiver cannot decode OPUS (only DD/AC3 and DTS), and now any videos with audio other than DD/AC3 or DTS are being transcoded to OPUS and playing in stereo. Seems absurd to me that transcoding to OPUS would be introduced without an option to disable transcoding to OPUS.

Am I missing something about OPUS or did the Developers just assume that everyone’s devices and AV receivers are capable of decoding OPUS?

This is still happening on Plex client 8.25+…

Videos will start as direct play and then randomly will end up “paused” with audio being transcoded to OPUS. I need to kill the stream and restart (which ironically forces direct play again and no OPUS target.)
