I see that on my Shield there is an update to the plex client dated 14th July 25. Where can I find the release notes for this update please?
If you haven’t updated yet, I’ll suggest you don’t. I also asked a dev about the lack of changelog and got ignored.
It’s a strange update too. They definitely changed things because it causes the seekbar to pop up when pausing a movie for example. It also causes live TV to disconnect every like 10 seconds for me.
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I haven’t updated; I’m very cautious about updating nowadays after their spectacularly buggy recent releases - and I’m not even talking about betas.
@ljunkie Is anyone from Plex able to shed any light on this please?
I turned off updates for iOS. Wish I had done the same for the Shield. I also noticed the stupid UI/seek bar popping up whenever I pause.
I figured it was just an “improvement” that they did on the recent update, and I had no choice/input on the matter. I really hate it.
@McWanke do you feel like commenting here? Why wasn’t there a changelog for these releases? That the player pops up when a movie is paused is very annoying, but more importantly it’s a sign that you have changed the player somewhat without specifying the changes. Why? Furthermore my Live TV stopped functioning correctly after these updates. So what’s going on?
I’ve auto update disabled on my shield and I don’t see any recent updates from the plex app so I’m curious about what your seeing. What version is reported via your plex client?
Its the 10.28 version which is the problem. Plex for Android - #529 by PlexAndroidReleaser
I was misstaken in that it had appeared several releases.
Pretty sure I’m on 10.30.2.xxxx or something like that, I’ll confirm when I get home later. I’m also on the beta channel for the client …
Are we talking about the same thing? This is the old experience Shield Client. There isn’t a beta for that is it?
Edit: ok there is, apologies. These have no changelogs either.
The only thing I see from July 14 is an Android beta that included an internal release note about a Google library update, which we typically don’t expose in public release notes for various reasons. As I don’t know about or have visibility into the shield deployment process I don’t know if this was normally pushed there or if this was accidentally cross-posted.
Its listed out here in the beta channel with no details so assumed it was either shenanigans or some internal update to support an update in the server→ Release Announcements - Android TV beta - #728 by PlexAndroidReleaser
It’s this update that I’m talking about: Plex for Android - #529 by PlexAndroidReleaser
10.28.0 from May 22 was another library update. This is the current client that we haven’t released as much recently due to the new experience work (and new codebase) but we occasionally need to get updated libraries in place to keep everything current. Very similar to the other update I mentioned in this thread.
If this is true, why is the video player behaving differently? My live TV is also not functioning since then.
I’m completely lost. I’m currently running 10.28.0.3441 on my Shield. I do not believe I am subscribed to beta releases. In the play store on my Shield I see an update available dated 14th July 2025. Text underneath reads “What’s new: Stability improvements”.
I can’t see any announcement of an update on the release and service announcements section of the forum.
That was my original question - where are they?
