Hello,
No new release on Play Store since one month for Plex server on Shield TV pro.
Is it normal or a bug on my side?
Plex for Android 8.25.1 has been released 26 days ago… so that sounds ok.
You can use the “bookmark” function of the forum to get notifications if there’s a new release:
Yeah but I talked about Plex server not Player.
And for Server I’m a beta user and on announcements, the last release is about 5 days not one month…
I think there’s something wrong with the Play Store on the Shield (I have no other Android device to compare). Neither of the two most recent Shield (client) beta releases have appeared, and now I’m getting no updates for any apps (I check daily).
I have not had an update for almost a month either on my phone or My shield so I’m pretty sure it’s the plex team’s lack of releases. IMHO Emby is so much better, I might switch back cause I don’t feel like waiting 30 days for them to fix serious bugs that prevent you from using your app. I had to re-install everything cause the last update messed everything up. I couldn’t access my content. Emby is like $5 and they don’t make you pay for an app then a few years later Make it free so your purchase was useless then Hide features behind a paywall after you’ve already paid for the damn thing
Are you getting any updates from the store, for any apps? I should be seeing beta releases and there have been two since I last saw any on the store. So it’s not a lack of releases from Plex.
Server Version#: Version 1.24.5.5173
Player Version#: n/a
For some reason I am stuck on Version 1.24.5.5173. I checked that I am still on the Beta:
Welcome to the testing program.
You are a tester.
@Akore Moved your post here since it is the same topic.
Google must approve all updates, and they have yet to approve the latest PMS beta for the Shield (no details on why approval is delayed).
Once Google approves the app, it will be available to install on the Shield.
For the record, it’s the last three beta (client) releases that are not showing on the Shield. The last one we got was 8.26.0.28833-beta. It’s very odd, because other Android devices have received those, just not the Shield, apparently.
It’s not a store issue either, as I have received other updates, e.g. a Prime update just yesterday. And, yes, I realize we’re talking about server releases here, but it goes for both.
Google and Amazon ultimately control when and where updates are made available in their respective app stores.
They each have their own approval processes and their own timelines. Amazon usually takes longer to approve updates, which is why the client versions in their store generally lag those in the Google store.
Regarding PMS updates for the Shield, I asked a Plex employee earlier today. The information in my prior post is what was conveyed to me.
Maybe client updates are beginning to propagate.
Your region may be receiving Fire device updates earlier than mine. My Fire HD tablet last updated on 08 November, to 8.25.1.28703, which is still the current version when I view the app on amazon.com.
My Shield has client 8.26.0.29181. It was available this morning, US Central time.
My Pixel 3a XL has client 8.26.0.29143. Not sure when it updated to this version, but most likely in the last 24 or so hours.
It takes a very long time… The developer who’s in charge of submit is in holidays maybe
Still no update for Plex Server on Android Tv…
It’s ok now for the Player
Hi @janoskk !
Can you tell us what’s wrong with Android Play Store?
The last release is 1.24.5.5173 (oct. 25, 2021) in the beta and normal channels
Thanks for your help
Hi @Nick0,
We’re working on it. This version is not currently available on Google Play store, while we work with Google to verify compliance with Google Play Developer Program policies.
@Nick0 et al, looks like Plex must have satisfied the Google “Policies” for now … just got offered (finally) the latest 1.25.2.5319 Beta for my Shield TV in the Play Store here in Australia at least … installed/running with no dramas so far but early days …
