Plex Client for Win32 ALPHA .02

Hi Dave,

Great job on the windows client, only issue I have is that 90% of my library are non-drmed “m4v” and none of these movies will play, everything else plays good though…

Any ideas??

*sigh* It's a known bug with mp4/m4v files and plex. I really don't know when Elan and the others plan on addressing it, but I have the same problem.. :-( You could probably batch transcode your files in .avi (the internal format won't change much) and that would fix it, but it's a pretty big pain in the butt.

Fantastic! Unfortunately I'm in the office but will take it for a spin when I get home.

Beta 1.1 is out!!

2 BIG features:

  1. Fixed m4v / mp4 playback… (Yeah… I can watch my Looney Tunes!)
  2. Added new keyboard commands during playback:

    up arrow = volume up

    down arrow = volume down

right arrow = skip 30 sec

left arrow = go back 10 sec

    M = mute

    SPACE or ENTER = pause

    Enjoy!

It's not known to me :)

There was an issue a few versions ago streaming an MP4 file to Plex for Mac, because of a change in ffmpeg, but I'm not aware of any other issues, and would love to hear about them.

Nope... was a bug on my end that I didn't catch until you patched the mp4 problem. All fixed on my end, now... (See later posts.)

-dave :-)

Phew :)

Great news!! I will give it a try tonight and report back

BRAVE BETA TESTERS NEEDED…

----------------------------

I have a new version of my win32 client that uses transcoding instead of direct streaming. This makes lots of things much faster, but there are still bugs. I need beta testers to help me find where the holes are. If you’re interested, please PM me directly and I’ll reply with a .zip with the new client.

On the upside, VLC will no longer be needed for the client, so that’ll reduce the external dependencies some.

-dave

Is it possible to connect to a PMS over the Internet with this client? Or is that what you mean by “remote streaming” that hasn’t been implemented yet?

Announcing Plex Client for Win32 Beta 1.2!

LOTS of new stuff here:

  • TRANSCODING TRANSCODING TRANSCODING… If your mac with Plex can play it as a native file, then so you can your Windows box through the miracle of transcoding.
  • Several bug fixes - primarily in the Video Plugins section

This is VERY beta code, but should be at least as stable as previous builds.

Todo: Better video plugin support. I’m vaguely contemplating native support for the mac plugin.bundles. (ie. copy the plugins dir to your windows box and run them natively.) I still need to so a lot of research on that.

    For now, have fun!

    Download is HERE

ps. if you need to reach me directly just email: dave(at)rensin(dot)com. It’s better than PM’ing me here.

So far I can’t get the rar to unzip - “no files to extract” even though there clearly are. Anyone else getting the same problem?

try it now...

-dave

Same error message I’m afraid. No files to extract?

wacky... it's just a regular .zip file I used winzip to create. Anyone else having this problem?

I'll give it one more go and see what happens. Back to you shortly....

-dave

Try it now...

-dave

That’s done it…many thanks - don’t know what was wrong there! Dying to try this out -I’ll pm you with feedback soon

cheers

Tried out the new client, and the only issue I could find so far is that if I cancel out of a video that is being transcoded by using the esc button, the pms server still says it has 1 active transcoding.

well now THAT'S interesting... I wonder if I'm not closing something correctly... I'll look into it.. Thanks for the heads up.

-dave

Fixed! I didn't know you had to tell the transcoder when to STOP.. That was never documented... *ahem*

Anyway.. Beta 1.3 is at [this spot.](http://code.google.com/p/plex-win32-client/downloads/list)
