Plex Client for Win32 ALPHA .02

NOOOOO!!! blast!! well im glad to hear at least you know about the issue…

Hi Dave,

first of all - great work, even it does not really work for me by now.

I have a Mac Mini running the latest version of Plex. I installed the windows client on my Win 7 32-Bit Laptop now.

I am able to connect to the Server and browse through the content. But … now the but follows ^^

If I try to play a file, it gives me exactly the same error, as winky mentioned a few posts before:

at System.Net.WebClient.DownloadString(Uri address)

at System.Net.WebClient.DownloadString(String address)

at Plex.Client.Win32.Form1.TryTranscodeBySegments(String part, Int32 quality)

Additional to this, I get an error on the Mac Mini that the ffmpeg process stopped working…

Any clue? Which logs do you need me to send and where are they stored?

I installed the client. It loads and plays my media files. The issue, the videos look like they’re low bit rate or pixelatted. I assume it’s an issue with resolution of the file versus the display or video settings. I tried a couple different files that were all 1080p with various bitrates. They all looked about the same. I tried on different displays with same result as well. One is a Dell LDC monitor with a resolution of 1680x1050, the other RP HDTV with a 1699x990 (approximately. picture adjusted because of RP overscan).

These same files play fine in XBMC and in Plex (when I was using OSX). I believe those programs player rescaled the video.

How can I make the client play videofiles on the secondary screen? I tried moving the client window to the secondary screen, but it still plays on the primary.

Is there any plans for a back button in the menu? Or an upper navigation bar that can get me back to my library?

Or am i just silly and missing the big back button?

BACKSPACE key.... Or ESC key

Yea, I just started realizing that the entire interface while CAN be operated by a mouse responds drastically simpler with a keyboard, after a few trial and errors i found it.

Just came back to post a disregard, but thanks for the quick response =)

Tried it out, very pixelated and choppy playback. Plays fine in my media browser/center set up though. Nice progress regardless!

I just downloaded your client almost a week ago so I haven’t had it long. But I was trying to connect to my PMS at home while i was at a friends house. When this error popped up after i selected it.

System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server > System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 10.1.10.200:32400 at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.EndConnect(1AsyncResult asyncResult) at System.Net.ServícePoínt.ConnectSocketInternaI(Boolean connectFaiIure. Hi,

I just wanted to ask if this thing is still beeing worked on or if it is more or less dead?

Because one way or another, a solution to play content from a PMS on a windows or Linux Machine would be great

cheers

Hello hilikustue,

well, there are some options for windows (no idea on linux) though...
All you have to do is to decide which open source media center you prefer - [MediaPortal](http://www.team-mediaportal.com/) or [XBMC](http://xbmc.org) ;-)

Have a look into these plugins:
XBMC: http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/27270-plexbmc-client-for-xbmc/page__view__findpost__p__174266
MediaPortal: http://www.team-mediaportal.com/extensions/pictures/myplexmedia (requires [MediaPortal 1.2.0 BETA](http://www.team-mediaportal.com/news/mediaportal-120-beta-released))

cheers,
Anthrax

Candidly, I'm having a harder and harder time making time to keep up with this. If there's someone who wants to take it over, I'm happy to hand it off.

Hi Dave, just came across this and it still works with the latest PMS for windows (and Win7 x64) :)

Sounds like you're a busy dude but if you can find a way to crank out one more little update ;)

..add a direct streaming option (or just some kind of "Open With" so people can use VLC or
MPCHC) that would be fantastic!

Just askin' no worries if not... I'd definitely be willing to take a look at the code myself (.NET coder.. already had a cheeky
look with Reflector ;) ) if you're up for making the source available I could give it a punt.. (PM me?) :)

FYI: This thread has moved to HERE

it says it didnt find any servers with bonjour

so do i have to download any bonjour packeges or any thing or is it built into the aplication?

Holy bump old thread batman. Plex now has official clients for Windows - https://plex.tv/downloads

smdion is, of course, correct.  This project hasn't been touched in more than 2 years since there is a supported Win32 client.

To answer your question directly, however, you need to install the Apple Bonjour package for Windows.  It is not bundled with this code.
