I) Just wondered, trancoding is hardcoded - correct? and it can not be configured yet?
B) already works that way
C) F toggles fullscreen ESC exits
D) http://yourhost.domain.com:32400/
E) PMS is mostly configured through the Mac OS client.
F) Good idea about updates. I'll put that on the list to look at
No worries. I like feedback more==better!

correct, though that will be changing soon. You'll be able to choose between transcoding and direct streaming when you select your server.
-dave
A couple of thoghts:
Subtitles are not stream’ed. Anyway to sort that out? and make them selectable if more are available
When Fast Forward maybe a timeline could pop up, so that you have an idea of how far we are. Make it clickable using mouse for more direct FF…
When toggling using F the movie plays in a window as mentioned above, also the dos window displays and finaly the frame when hitting F stays frozen as the background in full size. Thi means no access to the PC as such, unless I hit esc, abort the movie and esc, esc, esc out of the client… If the frezeframe dissapears I guess I haveaccess to PC while play back continues.
I have an error on one particular movie. The Pianist 10,3 Gb Blue Ray rip. MKV container
When starting a movie, I briefly see the dos window in a flickr. Maybe spare the user this if possible…? throw it to the back… I know this is details concidering this is RC, but anyways…
Sleep tight, this is Europe and late…
Is it possible to bring the IMDB votes to the client. I use those a lot…
Out of context:
Is it an option to expand the scope of this client to also cover EyeTV in the same way as the EyeTV iphoneapp does or when accessing from browser
EyeTV use port 2170, for me it’s in the same Mac. Someone may have a different setup.
Priority 1:
Live TV selection and streaming
EPG info
Recording overview and playback
EyeTV has an account service Login mail and password. This may be used for remote access
Just sharing my thoughts here. and you probably have other priorities for the time beeing

Hey again Dave
I did some performance testing. 1 server playing local and streaming to 2 clients. For more info:
http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/23863-workload-plex-9-your-experiences/
- Navigation in the plex app for iphone is fast and very smooth
Navigation in this client is very slow especially if other things are going on.This is over LAN
- You request full scale posters for the client. I assume there are downscaled images for ipad. Maybe they are sufficient. If not maybe Plex server could create lowscale images for clients like this
- I wonder if you request fanart backgrounds. They do not display and they are by no means required. Faster browsing is a much higher priority.
- Maybe auto download menu and graphic whenever the client takes a breath and store this locally in a temp mirror folder. Maybe allow the client to look for changes, even when not open. In an idle mode
- I compared the 2 simultaneous streams to iPhone and this client
When stressing the server both increase the number of pauses/buffer issues, but more so for RC1.3
iPhone: Pause and then ressumes normally, audio and video in sync all the time
RC1.3: Echo loop and stays there until i arrow left jump back. If the server is cool the sync will be fine. If the server is hyperventilating, the audio and video sync is lost… continually
HB
One more thing:
the iPhone will ask me if I want to resume where I was or start frombeginning
Bringing that to your client will make life easier if the stream crash or I have to quit the movie
Hi - thanks for developing this! This is probably a stupid question, but I downloaded this to try out in Parallels before I bought a windows laptop for reals. I installed .NET 4 & VLC but when I open the Plex exe it says “couldn’t locate servers via Bonjour”. Is there something here that I’m missing?
You need Apple Bonjour Print Services for Windows from the Apple support site. (You no longer need VLC).
Out of curiosity, why are you buying a windows laptop if you already have a mac? (since Plex runs best on Macs)
-dave
Not definitely doing so yet. My mac is my core i7 macbook pro - I don't want to tie it up by leaving it hooked up to the TV. I'm trying to move my mini + drobo that hosts plex & other server services to my server closet but I either need to buy another mac mini (expensive), or an Apple TV (not the same interface, not all the plugins work, and no 5.1 sound). But there are some windows laptops with HDMI that come on sale from time to time that are cheaper than a full mac mini so this could be an option......
Thanks for the help!
Repost…sorry :-\
Dave
What’s the status of your client? What is next step?
Plex for Windows runs fine in the menus, but when i press enter on a Movie/Episode nothing happens. There is still the List of my Movies/Episodes and no video appears… some solutions for that?
I am running Windows PMS, and I have downloaded RC 1.3, and when I try to use it, it opens, I can get to the movies, but when I try to watch a movie, it comes up with:
System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: 404 Not Found
at System.Net.WebClient.DownloadDataInternal(Uri address, WebRequest&request)
at System.Net.WebClient.DownloadString(Uri address)
at System.Net.WebClient.DownloadString(String address)
at Plex.Client.Win32.Form1.TryTranscodeBySegments(String part, Int32 quality)
______________________________________________
for the last line it has my address for it.
Then I click ok, and another window comes up saying transcoder failure.
It doesnt play the movie, nor does it exit.
Any help?
Thanks.
So I’m seeing posts about using the RC1.3 with the Windows PMS… I’m travelling today, but will be back in front of the source code sometime tomorrow. I’ll install the Windows PMS and poke at it with the debugger to see what’s up. In the meantime, those of you getting 404 errors would really help me out if you emailed me your logs. You can get me at dave(at)rensin(dot)com.

I am not sure what a log is or how to get it. What do I need to do to find that?
I just tried the client with today’s release of Plex Media Server for Windows and got the following error upon playing a video:
The remote server returned an error: (416) Requested Range Not Satisfiable.
" at System.Net.WebClient.DownloadDataInternal(Uri address, WebRequest& request)
at System.Net.WebClient.DownloadData(Uri address)

sigh The Windows PMS is a VERY different beast than the OSX PMS… Lots more investigating to do…

i have 1080p MKVs, h.264 DTS audio… when i play it takes forever to load and when it does start playing, the quality is horrendous… like a bad Youtube video… i know PMS is transcoding the file as i can see ffmpeg working but i cant find a setting anywhere to tell PMS that the windows client needs no transcoding… any ideas?
yup... I know exactly the problem and there's no real workaround right now. I'm working to add an option in the Windows Client to tell it not to transcode at all.
