Plex Client on Zidoo Z9X Pro – Features and Compatibility

Hello everyone,

I have an LG C1 55-inch TV with the latest firmware update from February (I don’t have the exact version at the moment). I’m a big fan of Plex. My Plex server runs on a Mac Studio, with my media stored on an OpenMediaVault NAS accessed via SMB.

I’m considering buying a Zidoo Z9X Pro and installing Plex Client on it, but I’ve read conflicting information. Some sources say that Plex Client on Zidoo does not take advantage of the device’s decoding power, and that to benefit from hardware decoding, you need to use the Zidoo Media Center instead.

I’m a bit confused and would love to hear from someone who can clarify this, even if you don’t have the exact same setup as mine.

Here are my main questions:

  1. If I install Plex Client on the Zidoo Z9X Pro, does the device natively use its own codecs and processor to assist with movie playback?
  2. Could this fix the playback issues I experience with certain files when using Plex directly on my LG C1? Or would it just be redundant without real benefits?
  3. What are the actual advantages of using Plex on a Zidoo? I’ve seen discussions on different forums mentioning that some media players have issues with Plex.
  4. I also noticed that newer Zidoo models come with a Plex app. Is this an official Plex Client developed by Plex, or just a third-party alternative?

Additionally, I have a question about HDCP 2.2: Does the LG C1 55-inch have an HDMI port that supports HDCP 2.2? I haven’t been able to find a clear answer.

I’m not highly technical, so I’d really appreciate any explanations! :blush:

Thanks in advance for your help!

Can’t help with Zidoo. Never used one.

@Robin40

buy the Ugoos AM6B+ install CoreELEC and PM4K, much better experience and better player than Zidoo.

Thank you for your answers. I saw for the LG C1 with the links you gave.
For UGOOS this seems interesting. Do you have one? and if so for how long, and how reliable is this? By this I mean not just being better on paper, but also in use. All the details that we can see, like it gets very hot on the case, etc.

I’ve had one since august 2024 and it’s working very well, 100% stable no problems whatsoever, it uses high quality components and cooling very good, I had the Zidoo Z9X previously and find this much better but also be able to use Dolby Vision on my Samsung QD-OLED as I run the CPM build, you get Dolby VS10 engine on it and it’s also supports DV FEL which the Zidoo does not.
