Plex Client vs PlexConnect

Hi

I have a question and am looking for peoples thoughts.

I currently have an ATV2 jailbroken & untethered with the Plex Client installed however this is constantly crashing and having issues. I then also have an ATV3 with PlexConnect installed which runs perfectly with no issues.

Both stream via WiFi.

Is my ATV2 having issues due to it being older and slower hardware or because Plec Client isnt being supported as much? I am tempted to update firmware to newest version and install PlexConnect but am wary as if Apple upadte and break PlexConnect then i have nothing.

Many Thanks

Alex

1) save your aTV2's blobs. Then you can go back again... to the frequent crashes?

2) depending on your aTV iOS version, you can use it as is and test out the PlexConnect performance. There might be no need for a restore or killing the native Plex client...

If your atv2 is running 5.x untethered or tethered, you may want to look at this first since you can have addsite and spoof your atv2 to any ios. Also plexconnect on my atv2 runs much better as in less frequent crashing then pmc. The atv2 has less memory then the atv3. 256 megs on the 2 compared to 512 on the 3. http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/81972-installing-a-new-app-on-appletv-without-hijacking-trailers/?hl=bag.plist#entry471827

Can you even save your blobs when apple have closed the window?? My guess hes on 5.0.2 thats the last version Plex supported Unthethered.. and that wndow is closed :(

TinyUmbrella picked the blob answer coming back from Apple's servers. With this you can indeed only save the ones still supported.

However, there was one of those tools that somehow checked the software currently running on your aTV to pull out the actual shsh blob. Not sure which tool did it that way... but I am sure some one else here around will remember.

You can always dump the specific blobs that are on the device using iFaith if you have access to a windows machine
