Hoping someone can help me because i’m out of ideas:
Here is my setup:
I have the PMS installed on a Win10 server (i5,8GB RAM, SSD) with the libraries stored on a NAS. I have several players and they all work fine (mobile, web, android TV, Plex for LG TV x2)
I’m having trouble with one of the Google TV Chromecast devices (up-to-date) which after a minute or so of playing, it closes the app completely without any UI errors.
Here are some more details:
the Google TV is connected to an LG TV which is older (No HDR)
the other Google TV Chromecast is connected to a newer tv, also LG, but with HDR - works fine
the content i’m trying to play is a really old tv show (720p, MKV, HEVC, he-aac)
in that minute, playback via direct play
the LG TV Plex app (installed directly on the TV) works without a problem for the same content
Any ideas why on the same TV the LG TV Plex app is running smoothly and on the same tv, via Google TV it stops after one minute?
It sounds like the app has not been unlocked. One minute is the allowed time for playback if you haven’t paid (usually around $5) to unlock the app and you don’t have a Plex Pass (which unlocks all apps).
How can i pay to unlock the app? This particular app? Because on the other Google TV it works just fine, and haven’t done anything special.
I have purchased the mobile app a few years ago, and since then, all the apps that i’ve been using have been unlocked, except this one, apparently. How can i check this?
Hopefully, someone from Plex can help you with that. I don’t have the same hardware. Was just pointing out that a 1 minute playback limit strongly suggests an unlocking issue. Perhaps you need to sign into the Google Play Store with your account so that the app can find the license.
I’ve signed in with the google account from where i unlocked Plex for Android… nothing changed… after 1 min, the plex app closes completely without any UI errors or warnings.
It seems like the app is unlocked because i don’t get any messages for trial or something like that.
Also, i did another test: i took the other Google TV device that works perfectly and plugged it in this TV, and the new Google TV Chromecast has the same behaviour - it closes Plex after 1 min - so i’m starting to suspect that it has something to do with the TV… i don’t know… maybe because it’s not HDR? But even if that’s the case, on the same TV, the native app (Plex for LG TV) works fine.
I don’t get it :(… the Google TV dongle works fine connected to another TV, the TV works fine while using the Plex for LG TV app, but when I put them together, there’s a problem. I also tried to see if there are any errors in the error log, but besides some warning… i don’t see anything.
