Since the Ninja only told you that there isn’t a 5 user limit, but didn’t tell you what the actual limits are, I thought I would.
A while back there was a great uproar from users that had over 100 users they shared with, when they tried to share to a new user. Seems Plex snuck in an update that removed the 150 user limits it had previously and replaced it with 100 users. They did this to reduce people selling memberships to Plex servers, which is a violation of Plex’s EULA. (And a pretty dumb idea, as well…)
All Plex accounts have a total of 100 users they can share with on that account. So if you have 1 server, there’s 100 users. 2 servers would give you 50 users per server, etc. Where this really comes into play, is when you have Plex syncing to Cloud Services. (Not the Plex Cloud Beta!) So if a Pass investor has set up his main server to sync his media to a cloud service and then shares this content out, he has 2 servers set up. (Even though he’s physically got one machine acting as a server.) Plex Cloud beta is going to also count as a 2nd server, from my understanding. So the same rules likely apply for them as they do for synced cloud services.
So the guy with 2 servers and both of those are synced to a cloud provider, has 4 servers total for maximum of 100 users across all 4 servers (or 25 each, if they are the same users.) 2 servers with 2 Plex Cloud beta servers, is also going to be 4 servers total. (Then if you also use cloud sync, then it’s 6 servers total. See how the numbers rack up quickly?)
Plex Pass investors also get Plex Home, which gives the admin Managed Users. These are basically local accounts created on the server itself. This gives the members of the Home the benefits of the Plex Pass. They don’t need to one-time purchase mobile apps. Apps that are in preview will work, etc. This is limited to a maximum of 15 Managed Users (or members of the Home.) The whole intent of Managed Users in a Plex Home is for those living under the same roof to be able to benefit from the Pass account in that home.
What we’re not 100% sure of is if the 15 Managed Users count against the 100 total users for the account. If you add someone to your home, and they already have a Plex.tv account, they are automatically added to your friend’s list as well as the Home. So we know THESE users are going to count against the 100.
But if they don’t have a Plex.tv account, there isn’t an entry in the friends list made for them. I think it’s likely those accounts would also count against the 100 total, based on how it works for Plex.tv accounts, but I don’t know anyone with enough users in either category to test it with.
HTH clarify the situation a bit… Stay under 100 users total and you are OK. More than that and you aren’t going to be able to make the excess accounts.
