Plex cloud RIP

Why would you even want to use the cloud for your plex library anyway? All of those companies that offer cloud service comes with a price tag…they will charge you to use it and if you need more space you pay more money. I paid the lifetime membership fee up front for plex pass knowing what I wanted. I have my own synology NAS that I can install more hard drives in the future if I choose to do so. The cloud might be for some people just not us. Personally I would and have never paid for cloud service, I like to be in control of my own files/documents/movies/music/photos

On so many levels I could never agree with this post more…

The idea that someone wants to put another “big brother” in charge of their data literally wants parts of my body to crawl up inside… What a frightening thing “Cloud” could become…

You’re all too funny looking at G Suite Unlimited. Have you even read the conditions?

It has a 300MB/hour 500MB/day upload limit, and people get their account disabled crossing that too often. Good luck putting your series and movies there. In my case I have 4TB of data to put on storage. That would amount to 8388 days…or 22.9 years.

I bet in 23 years, there will be a better solution so I’ll just wait for that. In the mean time I’ll build my own cloud, which is nothing more than a file server reachable from the internet.

Those rates do not apply to G-Suite Business. I have uploaded TB’s of data in one day with no issues.

Let’s hope it stays that way, because the documentation on G-Suite Business says otherwise.

Anyway, I just teamed up with someone else…both bought a Synology(well, build an Xpenelogy even) and off-site sync each others data into an encrypted disk. Whenever I need more room, I just upgrade my slots on both sides. I don’t get why you would want all your movie/serie/music data on a cloud anyway. Just store it locally, and make your plex server accessible from the internet = instant private cloud.

Backup? Just store it on an off-site backup. Although personally I can’t be bothered to backup up movies/series etc, just personal and company data. Plex Cloud is a bad idea to start with. I keep thinking…what is the difference between the G Suite abuse, and the megaupload abuse? It’s best any cloud service keeps its hand off this…

If gsuite business keeps working the way it is than the answer is easy unlimited storage and you never have to worry about your plex server at home.
I recently joined G business but ofcourse it cannot yet replace my local QNAP with 12TB storage which I still need to have running 24/7 for couchpotato, sickrage, etc etc, I also doubt you will be able to stream 4k movies or very high bitrate movies 50+Mpbs from the different cloudproviders smoothly.
And who knows when google will start enforcing their rules and or disabling accounts because of storing illegal media on their servers.
