It's is the process by which Plexconnect auto discovers the Plex Media Server on a network.
I have the sleep problem and using 2 plex media servers-one on computer and another one. If i'll try to shut this off, will it hurt one on the pms's?

I turned off, first, the use of GDM in PlexConnect and, then, after a few weeks of ongoing problems, GDM itself in the PMS. Oddly, this seems to have done the trick (although I remain cautious because it doesn’t make much sense).

What shutting down GDM means and how do i do that?
GDM is how PMS announces itself on the local network so users do not need to specify the address of the server in clients. The best answer above shows how to make PlexConnect not look for PMSs with GDM. You can turn GDM off in PMS in Plex/Web > settings > network.

But i don't wanna :(
This should be fixed somehow ..
By the way, apple should thanks PlexConnect. It's the reason i just ordered my second ATV (With hope ATV 4 will NOT be introduced in 22 october event)

Nope. Nope, it didn't.
still no fix?
still no fix?
I don't think so :(
Same problems here, the solution recommended doesn't do the trick for me.
Maybe 6.0.1 fixes this problem. Now, who’s brave enough to try it… Defenitelt not me
this problem might actually be fixed with the latest 6.0.1 update. I'll test it out over night
How do I update the ip_pms = in the settings.cfg file?
How do I update the ip_pms = in the settings.cfg file?
Edit settings.cfg on a text editor and type ion your IP address. You also need to make sure enable_plexgdm = False otherwise ip_pms is not used.
However in saying that this is an advanced setup and plexconnect should not need this set
I get a similar problem. I have a bit more detail and wonder if anyone else's experience is the same.
For me, it is guaranteed to not work upon waking from sleep, and also will sporadically just stop working, lately, about once per feature length movie. While it is not working no other internet features work on the apple tv, like youtube. There is just silence to the DNS server.
when the problem occurs, something is blocking traffic inbound from the AppleTV to the machine running Plex and Plex Connect. You can see the affect by pinging the AppleTV from that machine:
I have a workaround where I'm running a ping keepalive from the media center to the apple tv and no longer have any problems.
ping -i 5 192.168.1.112 >& /dev/null &
where .112 is the my apple TV.
I haven't worked out what is stopping the traffic yet, and not sure I can with my existing network equipment. I've run tcpdump on the media server while the appletv isn't working and no traffic appears there. If it was that server blocking the traffic I would expect that to show something. I have no equipment on hand where I can listen more closely to the appletv to see if it is trying to send anything out or not. Restarting the appletv makes it all work again too. And while it's not working I can still connect to PLEX over HTTP from any other machine in the house just fine. Any suggestions welcome.
Interestingly when I switch the appleTV to DHCP to get my ISPs DNS it works again. And if I switch back to the plex DNS it stops working. *until* I do a ping from the plex machine to the appletv again.

general Symptoms (all symptomatic of no network connection, /except/ when switching to normal DNS which works, but switching back to manual DNS, does not)
Upon waking from sleep the appleTV acts as if it has no internet access.
Plex DNS does not receive any DNS requests from the appleTV at all and tcpdump on the plex machine shows nothing incoming
It works again by restarting the appleTV, or pinging the appletv from the plex machine
It does sometimes just fix itself, sporadically. I've had it happen a few minutes after sleep, and a good 10 minutes after. Doesn't seem related to randomly trying to access things, it just decides to start sending requests again.
Plex DNS *does* respond to dns requests from the localmachine, and also does not require restarting.
This also happens to me sporadically while watching media. Generally happens once or twice during a movie, and sometimes will happen during a TV show.
Switching the apple TV to DHCP DNS will restore internet for things like youtube, flickr etc. But switching back to manual for plex DNS will again act as if there is no internet, and requests do not appear in the plex log.
PlexConnect (latest pull as of now)
AppleTV MC572X/A 6.1.1(6698.99.19)
DHCP IP with manual DNS
Connection PMS + AppleTV wifi to airport express which is bridged by ethernet to an ADSL router running dhcp.
PMS: Ubuntu 14.04, running in a bridged virtual box on windows 7 (the "non-pms" ping above that worked was from the Windows box serving the PMS in a VM, which has a different IP to the PMS.)
Same problem. ATV 2 with all the latest updates etc and Plex Server running on a mac mini with Mavericks. Wifi connection via Dlink router to ATV. While i'm using the ATV it works fine. But when i start it up in the evening i have to do a restart on the ATV to get it working.
Similar problem here:
If I wake my ATV from sleep it sometimes doesn't start movies at all (There was an error playing this content) or skips the very end of each movie (last few seconds) with the same error message.
Restarting the ATV prior to any movie playback remedies the issue.
Had the same issue, tried everything suggested here but nothing helped.
I finally solved it by configuring the IP address on the Apple TV manually instead of via DHCP, even though the router is configured to give it the same address every time.
