plex connect wont log in

how do i access my settings.cfg? Guess you missed it. I stated earlier when i click on it all i get is a cmd window that flickers. no options to change

Yes pms and plex connect are on the same system. when i right click plex connect i do not get the option to run it with admin privalages.

Please Confirm: Settings.cfg. He is not looking for Settings.py.

You should be able to view either file in a text editor of some kind, eg. TestEdit.app.

But don't worry, since you can't open it, chances are very slim that you did changes to it. :-D

Wherever your plexconnect directory located. You need to shut it down cleanly by pressing Ctrl+c to generate it, edit it then just start it up again with administrator privliges. Right click PlexConnect.py and look to run it with administrator privileges.

Plex/PlexConnect on Win? Win8? Most likely PlexConnect is unable to figure out the correct PMS IP using GDM.

Please do the following to confirm:

-> in Settings.cfg, edit the "loglevel" line to "loglevel = High"

-> restart PlexConnect, on aTV hit the trailers app, post/attach the log file: PlexConnect.log

One solution might be: disable plexGDM and code your PMS IP into "ip_pms = ..."

Thank you. I have been asking since about ten posts how to open settings.cfg now. lol

Ok. Now that I know how edit settings i am going to put up a new log.

The PlexConnect version number. If using Github source then a time and date of download: It was wahlman.j's download from the link in post 231. 3 months ago is the date of the stamp.

The contents of your 'Settings.cfg' file (this is created at first clean shutdown of PlexConnect, using CTR+c)

Detail on the media file if it is an issue related to playing a media file (in order to get the necessary information on a particular media file go into the Plex web interface, select the video file, when it brings up the page for the media file click on the "i" information button on the left hand side, it will then bring up a "media info" box, click on the "View XML" button, it will then open a browser window with the relevant information, copy this to http://www.pastebin.com and use the pastebin link to post the details; posting the information directly in the forum may mess up the formatting and generally takes up a lot of space):

I have a solution for you one sec post 231 here:

Install plexconnect directly on your atv.

Should my apple tv dns be pointed to the plexconnect ip self or automatic?

when i post it to automatic the trailers app is the regular trailers app. when i post it to plex connect ip self address it wont load the trailers app. However i do have a seperate PlexConnect button in my appletv.

Read my previous post I have had multiple successful users. Also it makes your atv portable and gives you a dedicated plexconnect icon (if desired). You must sign into myplex using this alternative method. I had no idea you had a jb iOS 5.3 atv2. I modified baa’s original method into easy to install .debs with a tutorial in the link provided.

Like I said in my post where I put my log, yours is the version of PlexConnect I am already running.

do i still need to change my atv's ip address to that of the plex connect self ip address with your method? should i still have downloaded the certs into the certs folder?

when i go into PMS -> Settings -> Devices my plex connect does show up in there.

how do i find my pms ip

@wahlman.j

Do I need to adjust any router settings? I have not done this so if i do this very well may be the problem. also, I have never adjusted router settings before.I noticed something about port forwarding in a previous post on your page you liked me to. I logged into my router and went to the port forwarding section but I did not understand any of what it was asking for.

This is a automated install just follow the tut. No router changes should be required. Myplex takes care of all of this for you with that alternative method. I use this on all my atv2’s on iOS 5.3 to make them portable.

so what do you sugges

So now im wondering if i even need plex connect on my desktop. you kind of make it sound like i dont.

What is myplex? is that when i login to the pms? Do I need plexpass for it? trying to find myplex but getting a little confused. I thought it was just when i log in for the plex.tv but now im starting to wonder. Im going insane trying to figure out how to get this working. You said it looks fine so I wonder what the problem is. LOL.
