Hi, I want to ask a real noob question. Lets say I have a plex server running on my home pc and I have other users ( like my brother ) That connects to it from he’s home pc will it use my data ? I am just asking because I am running on a metered connection and lately my data seems to finish up very quickly.
In short - if you have a metered bandwidth allocation with your ISP and are serving to remote users… well, it seems pretty obvious what’s gonna happen, doesn’t it?
Time to find a new ISP, cease serving to remote users or pay the overage fees - which will make your ISP very happy.
Bandwidth is bandwidth and your ISP didn’t become a Fortune 500 company without your support - and the support of others just like you. Overcharging for TV, Internet and bandwidth got them where they are today.

When my former ISP started enforcing data caps they did not differentiate between inbound and outbound traffic. Bits were bits. Seems yours does the same. Any video you stream to your brother will count against your data cap.
