Plex Deadlocking with to many hung connections issues for last 5 months Now!. (This ended up giving me anxiety attacks!) (Edited title for clarification)

Oh also unfortunately due to how this has effected my mental health (I am being treaded for Anxiety now ) I have also started to move away from Plex, as this problem has been ongoing for far to long, while the Dev’s can see the problem they can’t pin point the problem, and waiting a week between updates while very helpful and immensely apricated its not helping my health much.

Its very unfortunate and a crying shame (as I actually much prefer Plex and its simplicity) I have to move away from Plex, but its necessary

I am curious if you use any 3rd-party security software, antivirus, network protection, IDS, that sort of thing?

Edit: Geez, I apologize. I asked that same thing before. It sounds like your best bet - if you want to keep investigating - is to keep providing dumps, if or when you can.

Nope, just Windows defender and the same router I have had for 3 years now lol.

What’s happening is there’s a tread within Plex that’s locking up and the coursing a domino effect with all sequential threads after it so it just locks up, think is its also random so pin pointing the course is harder cos there’s no common pattern lol

I assumed there wasn’t. I just recently encountered some broken AV software that was preventing connections from closing correctly, and thought of your thread.

Intermittent problems are the worst.

Yep, if it was say the same time or day each time, or the same users then it would be easier to pin down but alas cos it pops up when it likes and I don’t know about it until I on one of my Kids try to use it its normally a far point into the issue so the course has probably sorted itself but the rest of the connections have yet to catch up lmao

Two somewhat crazy suggestions:

At the times of the deadlocks are you seeing any long I/O wait times? If so your disk storing plex could be starting to fail.

Have you thought about ditching windows completely and running PMS on Linux (ubuntu for example). You may get better results/performance out of Linux.

Nope not seen any Disk I/O issues (running off Dedicated SSD) however when I look at the wait chain via resource monitor it is telling me its waiting for Network I/O, Problem is Plex is the only thing that has this all other network traffic is fine.

Yes I have thought about it and I have a Server that’s currently awaiting some more parts (GPU and a couple of SSD’s) that I will be moving Plex to permanent if this can be solved/fixed.

The biggest problem I have is that Plex has been running on the same machine for almost 10 yeas with very very little problems until 1.2x like of updates started to come out (and looking at reddit and here 1.2x has been a mess for a lot of people for various reasons)

I had thought about dropping back down to 1.20.2.3402 but I am concerned that this will kill my DB big time due to the changes made to the DB code by Plex.

maybe your ISP is attempting to throttle or otherwise ‘manage’ plex related traffic, which causes latency/interference with plex network functionality.

Unfortunately this is definitely not the case, as I have been able to reproduce this with all remote access off and only Local Devices using Plex, Also I have Emby (This is what I am moving to cos of the Plex issues) running perfectly fine on same machine and using the Same SSD for metadata.

The Problem is connections/Threads are stuck within Plex itself (its not closing them) and this is what the Dev’s are struggling with as there is just one single connection/Thread that’s coursing all other connections/Thread’s after to lock up and remain “Jammed” open only finding what is coursing that single Connection/Thread to lock is not proving easy.

Just tonight, when my Partner and Kids started using Plex upstairs on there Xbox’s, it started to fail within about 20 mins, ended up opening 411 connections, yes 411.

Do you have a virus scanner and or internet security app installed? If so disable it and re-test.

Lol you don’t see them via the app, did you not read the top OP post!!

You can only see the connections via http://127.0.0.1:32400/connections?X-Plex-Token=############ and the app is completely unaccessible once it opens more than 50.

In the interest of trying to explain the issue here is a snip of tonight’s 411 open connections, ( I have edited IP Addresses and Usernames/Identifiers, the rest is untouched how it displays for me)

I think showing what its doing may help better convey what the problem is.

Now I must remind, this has been going on for last 4 months (out of 8 years of using Plex!!), This all started with Build 1.2x
The Host system was fully wiped and even the Plex DB and All Metadata was removed and restarted thinking this is the issue and it wasn’t.

When Build 1.23.1.4602 hit things did improve (the one with the DNS fix) as I think this may be a small part of the problem, however the last to Beta Builds that I have been asked to test have made things worse again!!

Yep, as said its only Plex that’s the issue everything else with the system and network all work fine and as they have done for years

Even if there was a contributory network or disk issue, Plex shouldn’t be getting into this state.

I think you’re doing the right thing by reporting and sharing dumps.

I’m just trying to think what makes your Windows 10 computer different from everyone elses. Are there any other people reporting this do you know?

Have you tried to switch out your router or disable the firewall on your router?
