No worries that’s cool, @sa2000 has been super helpful and getting the dumps/logs and connection list to the Devs, it’s just pinning down the culprit is proving to me a challenge.
At one point not more than a month ago this was coursing massive anxiety attacks when it would do this, but thanks to the doctor’s and some good friends it’s not coursing anything more then just a headache and a little bit of stress.
I have been trying to ignore it as much as possible while also keeping an eye and capturing diagnostics for the team
Have you updated to the latest update patch on Windows Update? I ask this because there was a fix in Windows 10 for various deadlocking bugs in the TCP/IP stack a few months ago as per here: Windows 10 gets fixes for performance-crippling deadlock bugs
One more crazy suggestion… Do you have other windows systems on your network? If so do you have Windows Update Delivery Optimization enabled?
We don’t use Windows at all in our house anymore but when we did this caused us problems so I disabled it on all systems which helped at the time. It flooded the network traffic and slowed everything down to a crawl.
God dam it another day and yet another lock up, this has most definitely increased in frequency on the latest Beta build’s, as a result I have moved back to the Public build, and as a result as started to bring my Anxiety levels back up with is not good at all
Quick update, since moving back to build 1.23.2.4656 its not happened yet (but it will cos it has done on this build) However I see that the Beta build that increased this issue has now been released on the public branch! I will NOT be updating to this for my own sanity, but also as the dev’s will not have had the latest 2 sets of Diagnostics on said build.
I will continue to pull Diagnostics each time it happens and hopefully at some point the course will be found
I have a similar issue since the last few months where a friend who is having access to stream from the server seems to deadlock the server randomly when connecting with his Xbox, exactly like you mentioned above. I am unable to reproduce the issue myself with PC playback, Android (phone and TV) and IOS (tablet), it only seems to happen randomly when he connects with the Xbox (One X version).
That’s actually really interesting, when it happens again take a look at the address http://127.0.0.1:32400/connections?X-Plex-Token=############ (switch out the hash with your server token) and see just how many connections there are, I must admit looking back through all my debugs the Xbox seems to me the one that it happens with the most but it dose happen with Firesticks and laptops randomly.
The plot thickens @sa2000, If this is indeed the same or similar than it seems my time scale is correct and the 1.22.x branch has introduced a bug.
After downgrading to 1.21.4.4079 as asked, I have absolutely no issues at all in fact Plex has been working a lot better and even scanning my media almost 3x faster, I will still follow the course as discussed in DM to help with the diagnostics but I must say this is very promising sign that the 1.22 branch is the core culprit!
@kegbeach When it happens can you follow the guide in my OP and just see how many connections you have (when it happens) I am very curious
Yep 661 connections. Dashboard is not accessible when this happens. I already messaged @sa2000 with the log files + connections + coredump earlier today.
Thank god I am not alone now, this is the exact thing I have had.
It did start giving me Massive anxiety attacks, I have had help and cos I am using Emby as a back up until Plex is fully fixed its now just an announce.
@JDA88 It will show in logs, when it happens look at the connections list as described above but also in your logs it you look for any line with “(8 live) GZIP Signed-in Token” the number before Live will tell you how many connections there are
The thing is I have 4 servers. Only one is having the issue. None of my servers have Android Firestick users except this 4th one thats crashing. I think the Firestick may be the thing causing the problem.
4 Servers, why lol?
Also so far I think the Clients are just coincidence, as mine tends to be when more people are using Xbox’s (out of all my users only 2 use something different)
I’ve been following this thread hoping to see a solution to your issue. I too have been having similar issues for the past month or so. It started off with random deadlocks once every other day or so. Then it started deadlocking daily. Initially, a reboot or restart of PMS would resolve the issue for the time being. Then that wouldn’t even temporarily fix it. Plex would start, I’d access Plex Web, and find that no clients were able to see the server online. I’d refresh Plex Web and my browser would just spin.
I found that reverting to PMS v1.23.1.4602 and running a DB repair as outlined HERE got me back up and running. That was last Saturday. Everything ran fine until today. When I turned on the TV this morning, I was unable to view the server once again. Checking the server, PMS was still running as usual but appeared to be deadlocked once again. Rebooting the server had no effect. Running a DB repair had no effect. Reverting to PMS v1.22.3.4392 and running a DB repair as outlined HERE then upgrading to PMS v1.23.4.4712 has gotten me a working server again. I’m not really confident that this is a final fix as last time I got 6 days of uptime before it crapped the bed again. I hope this provides some insight to a long term fix.
@AHickle When it happens please do follow the guide in the OP to see if its too opening far far to many connections (threads the Devs call them), as this is the bit that’s the main course and what’s being investigated!
In the mean time, can you post your logs and I can quickly tell you if you have in fact had the same issue
@AHickle I can confirm you have experienced the exact same issue as me you maxed out at 102 open connections within 15 seconds!
When it next happens Follow the guide in my OP to pull Dump file etc and let @sa2000 Know so the Dev’s can get as much info as possible and find the root course
