Plex Deadlocking with to many hung connections issues for last 5 months Now!. (This ended up giving me anxiety attacks!) (Edited title for clarification)

I jinxed myself, no more deadlocks but it does crash instead… but at least I can automate that to auto-recover!

Im getting a similar issue, this happened on an older build but im now on 1.24.0.4897 and the server can work fine all day but then it can just lockup and then you can’t access any of the settings or media from either the actual server or remotely from a completely different machine, the server just shows as offline.
Whats weird as well is this seems to keep happening between 7pm and 9pm GMT and when Plex is restarted everything works fine again for a couple of minutes and then the same thing happens again, I might have to close and reopen Plex 20+ times and then eventually things work like normal for another day, also when the server is relaunched it shows streams that people were watching even though they are no longer watching them like a weird history bug, the streams cant be stopped and if you look at the console it keeps saying stream terminated etc until the whole thing freezes up again and the console can’t be viewed.
I can attach logs if needed.

Logs please.

Attach your logs.

@sa2000 I’ve added the crash report dmps into my folder from my last PM, I didn’t have time to get the logs this time

That’s very interesting as that’s almost exactly the same times for me, but I always put it down to that just when people where using it and not the time @sa2000 could this be a vital bit of info I have overlooked?

@Lo-ki When it happens again can you please follow the guide in my OP to obtain the relevant Diagnostics for the dev time and Pass them over to @sa2000 and update here as well, he has been helping use get the information to the right teams over the last 6 months

Sure no problem

Plex Media Server Logs_2021-08-08_11-18-55.zip (9.5 MB)

I know its very strange, I was thinking maybe Plex was running some sort of scheduled task but I couldn’t see anything in the logs/console and everything like that is set to run between 4am and 5am.
I also thought it was down to outgoing streams but I have had way more streams in the past without this problem, it does keep happening during this window and not once outside of this time period, this has occured for the past couple of weeks generally every day but missing maybe one or two days.
Sure no problem I have everything ready to grab the diagnostics, logs etc if it happens again this evening and I will post back here.

Well I can confirm already you have the same problem faced by me, can you follow the guide in my OP when it next happens to get FULL diagnostics and send them in to SA2000 and also just update here once done.

In all your logs from 04:14 through to 11:18am you server is stilling with 44+ connections maxing to about 63.

Well at least I’m not alone in this and it’s probably a wider issue, yes I’m ready to get diagnostics etc when it likely happens later today.

Good stuff, the biggest thing to remember is how to get the right dump file cos you have to open the 32bit version of task manager

Yeah no problem I’m in tech, already got task manager from SysWOW64 open and ready :+1:

Right so the weirdest thing just happened, Plex deadlocked outside of the 7pm-9pm period that it has only occured in so far, obviously I jumped at the chance to get the two sets of dumps, logs etc and I have zipped it all up and sent it off to SA2000.
Now im in the middle of the usual opening Plex, closing Plex, opening, closing etc rinse repeat where the server functions normally for a minute or to before deadlocking again, it might take 30 times but eventually it starts working properly again.
It displays outgoing streams that are not actually going anywhere and that can change on each restart and I forgot to mention that a couple of times that it has deadlocked over the past few weeks whilst I am restarting Plex it would crash straight away, I opened it say 5 times until it stayed open and then the whole server went back to normal, no deadlock, streaming as normal until the next deadlock the next day.
Also one more thing, the weird streams that dont actually seem to go anywhere and cant be stopped show on the actual server but if you view the server remotely on another machine the streams dont show, it just says nothing it being played but the bandwidth monitor is showing outging data, a good amount to.

So restarted 12 times this deadlock and now the server is back online and operating normally.

Ok what I have found is when you close it is to wait 10 mins as this will allow all “Pipeline” connections to close

Ahh ok I will try that on the next lockup

Right so today has been completely off the charts, Plex has deadlocked six seperate times today instead of just the once between 7pm and 9pm, its suddenly all over the place.
What about rolling back to an early update?

More and more people are reporting this problem and probably hundreds more that aren’t bothering to report it with handfulls of diagnostics and log captures but Plex still hasn’t fixed it? Ridiculous.

It doesn’t look very hopeful does it, if this has been happening for months with multiple server updates released and still no fix for this major issue I just cant see it being resolved any time soon.

Plex should be embarrassed.
