Plex deletes TV shows

Discovered an issue where -

If you have DVR and have been recording a TV series then delete that TV series.
Then re-create the TV series with another source, Plex will continue to delete that TV series and the data files periodically from Plex.

It appears that the clean-up process doesn’t mark that TV series as being successfully deleted after you remove the TV series recording.

Can you elaborate, normally you need a Recording and change the settings as follows:

The above options appear on all tv shows, when you edit them.
And unfortunately these settings apply globally to every file that has been matched to the same tv show. Regardless of whether it was originally recorded with the DVR or was added in a different way to the Plex library.

So, add a copy of an episode of this show into Plex, let it match and then edit the show at its topmost level.
Go to the ‘Advanced’ tab and set
‘Keep’ = “All Episodes”
‘Delete episodes after playing’ = “Never”

As explained…

If I was recording a TV show and then decide to delete the recurring recording and its subsequent recordings then use a different source like a ripped copy of a set of DVDs, then Plex will go ahead and delete them as well in the future.

And future being well after I have deleted the TV recording requests.

Yes, understood.
The above method is the only way to change the episode retention policy for this show in the Plex database.

But there is a clear bug where you remove the show and it’s recordings, add them again after the fact and system goes ahead and clears them out as well in the future.

Agreed on that.
I will file this accordingly.
