I have a couple shows set to record, and if I catch them while recording, it appears to be working (plex indicates they are recording, and I can start playing the recording and jump to an earlier point in the recording, so it seems to be going somewhere), but after it’s done there’s nothing new in the ‘recordings’ library.
Thanks for your response!
Are you saying it might go to the wrong location or are you saying it might be SET to go to the wrong location? I did check and confirm it is set to record to the right location, but if it might still go to the wrong place, I can poke around and see if it’s anywhere else…
Just suggesting that you may have set to the wrong location.
I have multiple libraries set up, somtimes i accidently point a recording to the wrong one, just a really quick thing to check.
You say you have set it to the correct location, so the problem is something less obvious.
If you have activated “detect and delete commercials”, change that to “detect commercials and mark for skip”.
Do also take a look at the episode retention settings of that show.
Don’t tell Plex to delete episodes automatically, based on either their “watched” state or their broadcast date, while trying to resolve this issue.
Thanks for your response! No commercial detection set, but the retention was set to 1 day. The other ones that are recording are set to 1 week, but to be safe I set these from 1 day to never and I’ll double check them on Friday night and see what they do.
Thanks again!
Any luck on this working for you? I’ve had the same issue where plex says the OTA TV recording was successful, and transcoding works at the end of the recording but no file to watch is made.
I am checking to be sure there is not a permissions issue on my drive for new recordings, and also seeing if the file was created but “0” in size… Been attempting to trouble shoot this a few months now. I had reverted to an older version of the media server and that seemed to work for while but then issue started up again.
It’s also spotty, as in random as to what shows are recorded and what ones are not saved. All show successfully recorded (no errors in the GUI such as tuner failure, storage space failure).
Here’s an example of the GUI and the Logs. I have yet to comb through them completely.
@haastylecat13 - I looked at your logs specifically for the 8/12 recording of “Lauren Lake’s…” from 8:00-8:30am since it is showing recorded but not there. It completes recording and moves it to your library, but then immediately deletes it based on policy.
In the advance record options for this show do you have the “Keep” option or “Delete Episodes After Playing” set? It’s something with one of those - I think the later. It appears Plex thinks you already watched this episode in February of this year, so it deletes it. The message “Garbage Collector: Deleting episode 77 - Wilson vs. McKnight (watched: 2022-02-21 21:45:19)” from the logs.

I had delete “After a Day”… Plex must keep a running record somewhere of what episodes I have seen in the past that were even deleted at some point. I guess I had assumed it wasn’t that complex and only went by just the time the file was created as new and didn’t keep a running record of what was watched.
I have it set to keep all episodes and I can manually delete if need be which would kind of be a pain, but I would have my recordings at least. I will see how recording goes tomorrow.
Thanks for having a look at the logs for me. I will update tomorrow evening or the next day at the latest.
I don’t use the auto delete functions, but I would have interpreted it the same as you… delete after a period of time after watching that instance of a recording. Not “delete after a period of time from when that episode was first watched.” However, the log message suggests the weird way.
Regardless, I hope it works for you. Like you said, manual delete is better than no recording!
